Unless he’s into wearing rings or other jewelry I don’t think you should buy anything like this for him. A lot of men don’t like jewelry, so it wouldn’t be a thoughtful gift if it’s something he wouldn’t want to wear but now he feels pressured to wear it because you gave it to him.

If he actually likes jewelry or trinkets, i think getting it for him as a token of your love is appropriate but not as a promise ring type of thing. Those relationship milestones should be initiated and executed by him because you don’t want to be in a position where you’re the force propelling the relationship to each next stage and he is just going with the flow.

I think this is a case of you imagining something that you would like to receive from him and assuming that means that he would also want to receive the same thing.

Also, I obviously don’t know him, but I assume a guy who likes the idea of wearing a promise ring would want to be the one to initiate that relationship milestone.

Promise rings are for kids, especially those experiencing some kind of temporary separation they want to come back from before getting actually engaged.

I’m pretty traditional in this regard but if promise rings are used, they should come as a promise from the man to marry the woman and agree that this is usually done in high school or college at the latest. Most men know that marriage is the goal to women, we don’t need to give them a ring to promise to marry them, they are aware that’s what we want. That’s why a promise ring actually means something coming from a man who more often than not will be the one to decide when the marriage will happen.

How he will take it, you would know better than anyone on the internet. I will say that if you don't already know the answer to that it's probably best to refrain. I;ve known plenty who made this type of play with their men and is almost always goes badly. It's just a man's job so to speak. Let him lead, doing it for him almost never ends well.

I was thinking about getting us sun and moon promise rings for an anniversary and Christmas gift combo but is this too masculine of a move or am I safe and this is cute?

Everyone’s culture is different, but from what I understand this would be like the woman purposing as a promise ring is a placeholder ring?

I doubt he would interpret it in the thoughtful way you are intending.
