The problem is guys are too nice and too needy. That's a turn off for girls. So, if you push them away it shows you have boundaries and don't mind challenging her. Women in general like this. They don't want to date a pushover.

So, if you push her away it shows you aren't needy. But, you can't just push, push, and push some more. She will think you don't like her or you won't show your genuine personality to her.

So, you push her away with something like disagreeing with her or challenging her in some way, then give her a compliment or recognize there is something you like about her. It's not specific really. It's just a general idea that you're not afraid to say or do something that may loose the girl. It shows your not needy and not a pushover. You're not like all the rest. You have boundaries, standards, and opinions and aren't afraid to show it.

Generally, you test these things out and see what works for you. Then it becomes calibrated. At first though, it may not be calibrated so you need to practice. See what you can and can't do. Learn how to calibrate to the girl or group as they all will be different. That is where the skill and social intuition is developed.

Basically it’s keeping her guessing if you like her or not.

I find this useful in all areas of life not just pick up.

Keep everyone swinging between validation and rejection. Don’t always focus on them when they’re around you. Be aloof and distracted sometimes, give them intense attention and genuine praise other times.

It's about checking if the girl is engaged into your interaction. You give her the candy, then you take it away. You lean towards her, then slightly ignore or be disappointed. Give some uncertainty, then surprise her with intimate emotions. It is pretty effective technique to get some emotions going and to check if the girl is also supporting and investing into your relation. But anyway, you should just be natural about it and feel the emotions.
