I usually skew towards the ridiculous, girls here mundane shit all day long. Snapping them out of their auto-reactions is more useful.

-Hey I'm Jorge, and you look like you could kill a man with those nails.

-Hey I'm Joaquin, and I just saw the weirdest porno

-Hey I'm Bilbo, and I feel like I know you from some past life. I was a king there, and you were obviously some sort of jester.

I put a lot of stock in the idea that you need to fundamentally change the way you think. "What do I say next?" That's a logical statement: you're saying when you start a conversation, one step logically follows the first step of introducing yourself. That's not how socializing works. People spend all week thinking about abstract shit that isn't happening right now. The economy, the TPS reports, whatever the fuck you do at work. People go out to engage the present moment and share positive emotions.

Put less effort into planning for milestones in a future conversation and more into learning how to spontaneously engage new people and information as they arise. The next step is to systematically remove all fear of the unknown.

Make an observation about her: 'You look like you're from Texas, people from here don't wear boots like that.'
She's going to respond, whatever she says, make a statement related to her response, then ask a question.

her : 'Haha no I'm from Montana!'

you: "I love montana. I've noticed every dude from Montana has a beard. Why do you think that is?"

Repeat Step 2...

Her: "Haha! I have two brothers and hey both have beards. I don't know why! Maybe because it's so cold during the winter?"

You: "It's cold in Minnesota which is where I'm from, and I can tell you they do not grow as many beards over there. What brought you here from Montana?"

This won't make you a great conversationalist, but you'll always have something to say.

To summarize:

Make a statement about her.
Make a statement about what she just said, then ask a question.
Repeat step 2 ad infinitum.

Hey I'm anon Hey I'm whatever ------ This is where I get stuck. I'm pretty awful at small talk.

As someone implied..... opening with an observation or question + an observation can be gold. Simply paying attention to the moment will seriously give you enough to work with. But you might have to brush up on your observation skills and get out of your head . [I guess you could always use a routine but I prefer the advantages of a more natural approach.]

This is just an example of one of many things to say.

DON'T you ever study ANY script to open up. just say whatever and pickup on where ever it is going. The key is that you have stuff to say.

Any hobby is fine, I just guided the conversation to one of my hobbies by starting about the shoes.

If you are a musician talk about her taste of music "Ow you might like my band because I make this"

If you are an artist, Ask her if she is creative and pick up from there.

Etc.

TL;DR if you can guide the conversation to your own interests, talking is a natural thing. If you want to be able to talk about everything get interested in everything.

It doesnt matter what you say, just keep approaching to get your anxiety under control and eventually youll develop confidence. Then you will stand out as an attractive person and be moving towards your goal. Dont think too much. Once you get more comfortable in your own skin what to say will just flow.
