This girl (21) and I (20) have been hanging out all summer on the weekends when we both don't have work. She has been giving me IOI's all summer but she also has given me a lot of mixed messages, such as always suggesting we invite friends to go do something whenever we go out together. She would do things like dance really dirty with me and only me and sit on my lap. She is constantly very flirtatious with me.

Last Sunday though we were just hanging out together in the library having a good time until I asked if she wanted to go to dinner together, but she said she was going to go out with her family because they were in town. She hung out with me before they came to pick her up at the University library and it was obvious that something was bothering her. She wouldn't tell me what was up and I basically had to convince her to tell me and coax it out of her. She tried changing the subject quite a few times and the situation was just awkward. By the way she was acting and the fact that she wouldn't look me in the eye (which is HIGHLY unusual for her she usually makes prolonged eye contact) I could tell what she was already thinking, but I wanted to hear it from her. So after a bit she finally said that I was such a great guy, that I did everything right, and no guy had ever treated her so nice before but that she just couldn't date me because she doesn't date friends (we have quite a few mutual friends) because she has seen situations like this end horribly. She basically gave me the LJBF speech. This whole time she was very upset, wouldn't look me in the eye, and it was almost as if she was going to cry. When we parted ways she hugged me for like 45 seconds and kissed me on the cheek.

It's been about a week since that happened and she texts me allllllll the time still. I'm not really sure how to act in this situation, but I know I want to get out the friend zone and into a LTR with this girl. What should I do?

I think my mistakes with this girl was that I was probably too nice and I would do sweet thoughtful little things for her. I was also probably not physically aggressive enough although I never really had the opportunity seeing as there were always people around except for this one time when we were at her apartment.

She's gone for the next 3 weeks to home in Connecticut, but she keeps texting me. I am going to up to NYC for the weekend to hang out with my friend and she invited me over to her house for her father's birthday party. Any advice on how to deal with this situation would be appreciated.
