Sometimes I'm forced to get a number before I can escalate intimacy as much as I would like. I tell her to give me her number so we can exchange awkward texts, then send her a message that just says "awkward text" either a few hours later or the next day.

They always text back, and I segue right into making plans to meet somewhere, usually during the day (preferably late afternoon, early evening).

It works well because it acknowledges the slight awkwardness of the situation, which actually reduces the awkwardness and reassures her that I'm not a social retard.

The scenario described went something like this: Dude sees cute asian girl giving IOIs at a park, they exchange numbers, part ways.

GUY: Hey, you'll never guess what happened to me at the park the other day! -DUDESNAME (in case she doesn't have your number)

HER: What happened??

DUDE: Some cute asian girl tried to pick me up. She had some smooth moves.

HER: [whatever flirty response]

DUDE: [tell her you should meet up] ...

Sorry to OP if I dint do it justice, but the point is, you can pretty much spin it to fit any situation you want, and it works pretty damn well.

This is something a friend of mine from college who was a natural used to do with girls he had just met/got a number off of/didn't know well. He would call, but I think it could work as a text too:

"Molecular biology, your thoughts?" (immediately hangup).

Molecular biology was interchangeable with any other advanced scientific topic you could think of. I've never tested this personally but I always thought it was money.
