I'd like to reiterate this with a slight modification: Have a sense of purpose when you're alone - you're on a mission, doing something, going somewhere, not just working or sitting around alone. You don't necessarily have to enjoy it, but don't make yourself feel bad every time you're alone. Understand that you need to be by yourself while working or exercising. James Bond did not get all those girls by being excessively social or hanging out a lot in clubs.

I like your thoughts, but I've often really wondered about the advice that you have to learn to like being alone before you can successfully be in a relationship.

That doesn't fit for me. I don't like being alone. I don't think I'll ever like being alone. I am extroverted, and extended periods of isolation are just depressing for me. I don't think any amount of forced isolation would get me to enjoy it or even accept it comfortably either.

What if we change that to say that instead of enjoying being alone, you instead focus on somehow learning that no one individual person holds the key to unlocking your loneliness? In other words, you need people and companionship, but you don't necessarily need this person or her companionship. In other words, the world is full of women and if the one you like doesn't work out, the alternative isn't loneliness - the alternative instead is an opportunity to meet lots of other interesting fun women.
