I think the general consensus is: Don't rely too much on facebook for gaming, but do make sure you at least have a facebook (and that it preferably sheds you in a good light), because you'll look like a smug priss if you don't.

Because this is how it generally goes: She says something like "Do you have a facebook?" or "Friend me on facebook" or maybe she doesn't say anything but she tries to find you on facebook. Your response will always be something like "I used to be on facebook, but I got turned-off by it. I keep in touch with people in other ways, blah blah blah," but all you're really communicating to her is "I'm one of the 2% of losers who doesn't have a facebook, and nothing I say or do will change the fact that it's kind of weird for me to not have one." It's just one of those social constructs (like, you can make racial jokes, but be careful around people of that race- they might not appreciate it, no matter how legit it is).

I hate facebook. I never use it, and never facebook people.

However, if a girl I just met facebook friends me, I know she's into me.

That's the question you need to figure out. If you are okay with passing on that, then you don't need it.

I've got a facebook (obviously, who doesn't? ;) ) but I try to avoid getting girls I've picked up as friends on facebook, because it feels like they know too much about me. I think it's probably just a quirk I have and isn't really founded in much, but I stand by it.

im not the most popular guy but not anti social either, but i dont have a facebook, why do people get shocked when i tell them i dont have one. freinds put stupid stuff up and get tagged in pics i dont want family to see, not down with that, but its almost like people dont trust you unless you have one and they can check it out and look at your pictures, fuck that. but a mean needs his poon, id rather not have one

Couldn't agree more about your first paragraph, but you should have a facebook, not having one is like not having a phone or a computer.

Doesn't mean you have to scream for attention on it, but keep mildly engaged in it, because it's established enough that it's kind of weird when someone doesn't have one.

As far as privacy goes, all you're giving up is who you're friends with on facebook, the rest you can decide for yourself what you tell people about.

Facebook is like a mule you can pong chicks to.

There is no such thing as "into" Facebook. There's nothing to do really; reply to wall posts, play apps.

If you don't stuff, other people won't see stuff. If you change your privacy settings, random people can't see shit either.

Replying, or posting wall posts is completely optional.

Facebook is only for family and close friends. Tell them that. At least, that's my tactic. And it really is - I don't monitor it much, and the use it gets is only from syndicating what I do in other apps. It allows me to have that fake-social interaction with other people, but keeps some mystery to girls I meet outside of my circles.

Another tactic that seems to work is to have a public account (or make it your only account) that you rarely use, never use for chat, and add anyone who asks. Keep it sparse - ONLY pictures of you that are very good, show you having fun with other high value people, etc. This one both demonstrates high value and generates mystery.

i use facebook, and i like facebook. I have, however, made the mistake of fb-ing girls i met (and even already banged) in real life. SOCIAL is the key word here.

new "flings" or whatever you want to call them, are not serious, they are fickle, and often trivial (or at least they should be, so you don't take them too seriously and ruin them). They are sexual, whereas facebook is social. I would argue that a sexual relationship doesn't become "social" until some type of commitment is made, and/or some other threshold of "seriousness" is crossed.

until then, assume your friendings on facebook to be for friends (and girl[friends]), not for fuckbuddies and other casual dating situations. The way I see it, she doesn't need to see my shit, and I don't need to see hers. it can only be bad for you - she finds your comments undesirable, or you find yourself checking her FB too often and getting jealous about the men she's commenting with. perhaps even the instant access allows you to get sick of each other too quickly and burn it all out too fast.

facebook, whether you love it or hate it, sucks for gaming and the idiosyncrasies that surround it. pretty much the end of the story there.
