Hey. I'm a gay male and I've never approached men in person/public, I've done it all through dating sites and such. Today I was at my college, after an exam. There was this cute guy I knew that was gay.

So, I just decided to fuck it and approach him to make small talk. Of course I was a very nervous at the start, and I had to really will myself to go talk to him, but when I did, after literally 10 seconds we were having a normal conversation. Nothing bad happened. And we'll probably see each other at college, so everything went well.

Just to say that it was a very important moment for me, because I've always been self conscious (just getting over that) and afraid of rejection. And joining this subreddit gave me the added mental strength I need. Thank you! I look forward to reading the posts, FAQ etc and forming part of the community.

That said, as a gay male I have an added problem when it comes to approaching guys. Especially in my case, where flamboyancy is more of a turn off than a turn on. Apart from the self consciousness problem, which is already being fixed and on track, I really don't know how to handle the thought of hitting on a straight man by accident.

I mean, not everyone is rational in this world, and although I highly doubt I'll get hurt, I don't want to a) Be slandered and laughed at in public or b) Constant awkward situations etc.

It's one of the only reasons really that I envy heterosexual people, you've got social norm on your side. Anyways, any suggestions? Also, if possible I'd love input from fellow LGBT seducers on how you "adapt" the hetero-oriented advice you get here to gay men. Thanks!
