Hey there Seddit.

I've been lurking on these forums for far too long without getting in-field and actually testing some of this knowledge I've learned. And I knew that if I did a direct approach that I'd probably be fine. I mean, I've become a way more confident person, I can now hold a conversation under just about any circumstances, I have interesting things to talk about and after months in the gym, I've turned myself into a good looking man. I'd practically mastered my inner game.

No more excuses. Time to get out there.

I went to a local mall in Toronto with the intent to do at least one direct approach on someone random in the mall. I knew that there was nothing to be afraid of, and that if I pussied out that I'd be a failure. I wasn't gonna have that, I'd done that too often in the past. Me and a buddy walked up and down the mall's hallways looking for who I was gonna do an approach on.

After about 15 minutes, I saw her. She walked out of a store and sat on a bench alone, seemingly waiting for someone. She was gorgeous, an HB 9.5, wearing a black dress and a pink bow tie in her hair. Fuck it, I was here to challenge myself. I took a deep breath, mustered up my confidence, and walked over and sat beside her. I looked her in the eyes, smiled, and began:

Me: Hey, I saw you sitting here and thought you were really cute. I wanted to come and say hi.

Her: (Smiles and laughs) Hahaha, thanks!

Me: I also had to say, I've never seen anyone wear a bow tie in their hair like that. A little strange, but I think you pull it off.

Her: Haha, I appreciate that.

Me: Yeah. Jesus, you're carrying the whole mall with you there! (she was holding about 5 bags, she laughs) So tell me where you went shopping today.

Her: (Names off some stores that she went to)

At this point, a man walks up to her, obviously with her. I talk with her for another minute and she tells me that she just moved from Edmonton, and that she was working in the mall. I tell her that I work there too (which I do). We exchange names and she tells me "Maybe I'll run into you sometime, bye!" And walk off with the other guy.

Well god damn, don't I feel like a million bucks now. I was pleased to see that once I get myself into that interaction that I was able to hold my frame and be relaxed. Awesome, let's do it again!

My second approach was to a girl that was standing outside a hand cream store. She was punkish with red hair, an HB8. I walked up and again told her "Hey, I saw you standing here and thought you were really cute, I wanted to come and introduce myself".

She immediately looks concerned and says "Oh...Well, thanks so much, but listen, you REALLY don't want to get involved with me..."

This was a strange and chocking thing to hear someone immediately say. We ended up getting into a long conversation, and as it turns out, this girl was neck deep in with gangs, and told me that at the end of the week, she was either going in a body bag or to jail for 10 years. I just told her that she needs to not give up, as bad as things get, because in life, not doing anything and just giving up was the worst possible plan of action. I guess I had reinforced that earlier that day by finally not giving up on my approaches. She told me her boyfriend was waiting behind me, he was a thug-looking guy. She gave me a hug goodbye and thanked me for bring her a bit of happiness in her day, and told me to keep her in my prayers. It meant a ton to me. Even if I didn't get a #-close or a K-close, fuck that shit, I had just given a glimmer of happiness to a girl that was losing everything. That was the greatest reward of all.

So I learned a couple of things: If you are genuine in your approach, and come off as a congruent person, you'll get a good reaction. The feeling of having tried and lost is still WAY better than not having tried at all. And finally, you don't know a persons story until you talk to them. Every approach has a potential story waiting to unfold.

tl;dr: Tried my first two direct daytime approaches. Yielded results better than expected. People are friendly and interesting if you are too, so don't be afraid.
