Hey guys. I have a question regarding texting. Keeping it simple: What are your recommendations on texting a girl over the summer when there's no opportunity to meet up with them?

The situation I've found myself in is that there are a few girls from my university who I started becoming friend with towards the end of the school year. I haven't really done anything with them yet, but I hope to get things going when I get back to school.

My general rule of thumb is never to text a girl I'm interested in to just shoot the shit. I believe in texting only as a means of setting up an in person encounter, but I'm not sure if that rule should apply to situations where there is no opportunity to meet up anyway, like over the summer when me and the girls of interest are hundreds (and in one girl's case, thousands) of miles apart.
