As a female who waited to have sex until I was older (right before I turned 21), I just said I was waiting. Reasons-

Sex wasn't worth the risk of getting pregnant- I wouldn't have gotten an abortion. Foreplay is fun, I was happy making out and eventually fooling around with my partners. I didn't want to? I never had a long term relationship and wanted to wait until I cared for someone before I got all awkward and naked and shit (I wasn't naive enough to think my first time was going to be a miraculous, beautiful thing full of orgasms) I at least wanted to be happy about being so close to someone I cared for and felt comfortable with. Again, foreplay is fun. Again, no pregnancy. And I think the biggest reason for me, is that once you have sex with someone, you can never go back.

Like, if you hold hands, you'll always have crossed that line. If you kiss, you can't go back to just holding hands. If you get naked, you can't go back to just kissing. And when you have sex, you can't go back. It's always going to be there with that person- especially when you're dating. So I knew if I did have sex, and realized after that I wasn't ready, that it wouldn't matter. I still wouldn't be able to go back to just kissing. So for me, it was emotionally safer to wait. It felt healthier to have that boundary.

No one who ever asked looked at me weird or negatively. Most respected me a little more. One was bummed he'd never get my panties off. Shrug. Win win.

I sincerely doubt girls dislike your virginity. They're just curious as to why- personal, religious, medical, etc. Usually it's chicks who try to wait, not dudes, so you're a rare breed. Likewise, the older I got the rarer I was and guys became more curious as to why I was waiting. Don't fret it.
