So I've been reading here for a long time now but I've never actually put any of it to use. Recently I realized that it's no good to just gain all of the knowledge from this amazing subreddit and not actually use any of it. Anyway, here's my FR (hopefully it will be one of many):

So I got a call yesterday around 12:30 from a church that I used to go to occasionally. It was just an automated voice message from the pastor explaining how tonight there was going to be an event outside of the place where there'll be BBQ, bounce houses for the kids, and later on, fireworks by the lake (it's a very large area where the church is). I thought, "Shit I've got nothing better to do". and so I went later on that evening.

When I arrived later on that evening, I noticed that there were A LOT more people than I anticipated. There were people and kids all over the place. I went over to some of the volunteers serving food, got a burger, sat down at a table and ate by myself while redditing on my phone. Pretty lame right? I looked around and saw all sorts of beautiful girls around me and I was doing nothing about it. After I finished eating, I walked around outside for a while until I noticed this really cute girl that looked about 18 sitting down in the grass playing guitar and singing by herself. There was even a second guitar right next to her. Now I can actually play guitar and thought that this was a great opportunity to go interact with a cute girl. At first, I just walked right past her without saying a thing. The AA was kicking in. Shit. I was making excuses in my head as to why I shouldn't go talk to her. But then I thought "What really do I have to lose?" and then turned right around and walked towards her. I was actually in disbelief that I was walking to a girl just to talk to her. But there's a first time for everything right?

I walked straight up to her, sat down, reached out my hand and said, "Hi what's your name?" with a smile. She stopped playing guitar, extended her hand and said, "Selena, what's yours?" smiling.

Me: "I'm The_Hunt" S: "Nice to meet you" and then we shook hands, holding eye contact the entire time. Me: "I noticed you playing guitar over here by yourself and I thought I'd come join in. Hope you don't mind" S: "Not at all :)"

At this point, I was just on autopilot. I picked up a guitar and said, "We should make up our own song together." S: "Okay let's do it!"

Now I don't remember exactly what I sung, but I made up this little song from 4 chords and sang about the first thing that came to my mind. Something along the lines of ♫ Selena you have a cute smile ♫ I really don't remember since it was all improvised, but what I do remember is that she was smiling and enjoying it the entire time.

After that I asked her questions like how long she'd been playing guitar, what kind of music she liked, etc. Then her younger sister came over and sat with us. I introduced myself like before. Turns out that I was playing on her guitar but she didn't mind. I told her that I hope that they like country music, fortunately they did. And so I played and sang the song Your Man with them. They actually knew the entire song as well! It was really fun and afterwards they told me how deep my voice was. I said that we we all sounded great and I high fived them. Then the younger sister asked how old I was. Me: "How old do you think I am?" Sel's Sis: "Hmmm 18?" Me: "I'm actually 16 haha".

After a little bit of us hanging out and just having a good time, I found out that Selena is actually 24 and engaged! I was surprised and jokingly told her "I can't believe you led me on like that!" laughs were had. The younger sister told me she was the same age as me.

A couple of minutes later I told them that I had to get back to my family in time for the fireworks and that it was fun meeting them. The younger sister pulled out her phone and asked for my number. I gave it to her and she said she hopes to see me again.

After I walked away, I felt like a pimp. I mean I know that it's not that big of a deal but it was a HUGE deal for me considering how much of an introvert I usually am. I couldn't believe how easy it actually was to just have a conversation with a girl, let alone two who I had never met before. I just wanna say thanks Seddit for guiding me and just being a bad ass community.

To people who have AA: Trust me, it's all in your head. There's no reason that you shouldn't go and talk to her so just do it.

TLDR; Approached girl playing guitar, found out she was engaged, and got her sister's number instead

EDIT Thanks guys for all of the encouragement! This is why I love this community.
