You ask her "Do you have a boyfriend" If she says yes you can either choose to ignore it by saying "U cud use 2 bfs ayy" or move on.

If you are worried about girls lying about this, ask yourself the question: why would you want to be with a girl who lies about that to basically say no.

A friend of mine taught me a really great technique. In normal conversation, throw in a line that assumes that she has a boyfriend like "your boyfriend must be really secure to ...." and then guage her reply.

She might pretend to have a boyfriend, but that just means she's not interested and you can move on anyway.

Well before I answer your question I must ask, do you even care if she's single or not? or are you more concerned with getting permission to hit on her. If your not "actually" concerned with her status then I recommend you just make moves on her and see where that gets you. Now if you really really want to know if she's single then you can ask her directly (there nothing wrong with that) or you can be smooth and say, "as long as your not dating Barak Obama or a UFC fighter you and I should get coffee together" that's one of ways I find out if she is single or not.
