"just be yourself" is the dating equivalent of basketball's "just throw the ball into the hoop"
[–]danielson1987 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
if the hoop is a woman, in this analogy the hoop moves closer to you when you just throw it. Girls are attracted to authenticity. They are very perceptive and can quite easily pick up on fakery. Plus you're more likely to meet someone who is interested in the real you if you let people see the real you.
[–]theNickHatter 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The real trick is to stop seeing the woman as a hoop, as a prize.
Instead, see her as a fellow fan of basketball, just like you. She also likes to play, and she's also hugely insecure at times just like you (that's why she spends hours trying to look good, and posting stuff on Instagram for validation).
If you see her as the hoop, a prize to be won... you set yourself up to fail because you will idolise her, you will act nervous around her, you may even feel you don't deserve her deep down - and this will be reflected in your interactions, even if subtly.

Get off the Internet and go talk to people
[–]theNickHatter 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Classic Tom Torero advice, haha.
But yes - talk to PEOPLE. Not just women. Go make some friends.
[–]theNickHatter 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
HUGE caveat: it's enough to be yourself, provided that you know who you are first.
That's why I said in my blog post about owning your weaknesses.
I admit that at times I am insecure, dependent on external validation. I sometimes crave the love of a woman because I somehow think she will magically make my life better. I am also a recovering sex addict.
By admitting my weaknesses I:

I know who I am and I know enough that being myself all the time is the wrong answer. Good game is about knowing what she wants and embracing the difference between you and her (and the common ground that you both want to knock boots)

"I know who I am and I know enough that being myself all the time is the wrong answer."
Bro. hugs
I want you to read that sentence aloud. I really feel for you, genuinely.
I get what you're saying, but understand in that case that Game is then an act and not really you.
[–]DeathRebirth 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Hardly! We are multidimensional people, and almost no one will appreciate all aspects of us. That doesn't mean be someone you are clearly not, but it does mean perceiving your situation and acting accordingly. That is what game is, and that is what you are glossing over by the "just be yourself" line.
Thanks for the feelings bro, but I am good and I am really me.

I think your definition of Game is wrong. In basic terms, it's simply your social skills and acuity with women. Or, in other words, how well you socially interact with women in general. It's not just a collection of techniques like you seem to believe in your article.
And as any skill that you can learn, you can choose to develop your social skills with women DELIBERATELY, or neglect this. But even if you neglect it, you'll still have SOME level of game all the time because you naturally develop your social skills while growing up and living your life and interacting with the people around you. That's why millions of men are getting girlfriends seemingly "without game".
But those who deliberately take the time to develop their game (their social skills around women, learning social dynamics, etc) will nearly always have significantly better results than those who don't. Some are even lucky enough to have grown up under certain conditions where they naturally developed superb game, and they're called Naturals.
I've also done my share of approaches, in the high thousands over a decade, and I'd never tell anyone they don't need game. You develop your game with every single approach.
[–]WannaChangeMyLife4ev 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Game is about principles not techniques
[–]theNickHatter 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link
It's a definition of Game. Yes, male attraction encompasses several factors, but I still believe that confidence is king.
I once knew a physically unattractive guy who was dating a very attractive woman. Many of you probably know a guy like this, or have seen one in public.
Whilst this guy was morbidly overweight, he was extremely confident in himself.
I also know that a starving and broke artist can get a girlfriend.
EDIT: GENUINE Confidence is king.
[–]saulisdating 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link
I don't think one single thing is king. Confidence is just one part of a complex equation. I'm not a very confident guy and i get laid nearly every time i go out.
If i had to pick one thing to say it's "king", I'd pick Inner Game. And confidence is a part of that.
[–]DeathRebirth 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Most girls are fooled by confidence with poor inner game though. That is why the alpha doesn't give a shit type of guy wins so often. You don't have to play that game, and will do better if you don't, but it does work.
[–]theNickHatter 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Not all women from my experience. Microexpressions, voice tonality, body language, eye contact, amongst other things can give you away. One woman noticed I was clenching my jaw a lot... haha.
But yeah, faking confidence will only get you so far. It's a lot of work from my experience to keep that act up.
Your mask will eventually fall off. That's why doing deep work on yourself, understanding yourself, and owning your weaknesses are so key. Once you stop deriving internal self-esteem from people outside of yourself, your confidence will be rock solid. You will go through life not trying to please everyone but rather, expressing your own unique individuality, and because you're being yourself, you will attract people who like YOU for who YOU are.
[–]DeathRebirth 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Agreed, definetly not all, many. It's not for me, just pointing out it works.
Agreed, that it is part of the bigger picture.
But from my experience, confidence is a big part of it.
[–]BestOfPUA 23 points24 points25 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I did around 5k approaches. Here is what I learned:
Lesson #1 : Real confidence only works with girls that are 7 or below. For hotter girls, confidence alone is NEVER enough!!!!
Lesson #2 : You need some kind of strategy to take the girl from hi to bed. Just being yourself is not enough.
[–]recyclablebanthas13 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
The basics are:
Connect by getting someone to open up and sharing yourself to see if it all fits. Requires paying attention to navigate the conversation.
Physical escalation. Requires paying attention.
Confidence.
Logistics.
None of these things require a strategy that would necessitate someone to be something that's not them.
Someone can be themselves and take someone home, if they've planned ahead for things like having a place to take a girl.
[–]IAmMilkyMilky 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Question for lesson #1. What is “enough”? What are somethings that I can improve on realistically to get the results that I want?
[–]fanthor 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
1)lift
2)dress well
3)take care of your skin
[–]theNickHatter 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Understand what your weaknesses are and then own them and don't be ashamed of them. If you need help with this, consider getting a life coach or something, someone who can help you navigate your psyche.
I've personally found trauma therapy and 12 step recovery really enlightening.
Practice self-care and valuing yourself. This means eating well, sleeping plenty, exercising regularly, developing your social network, working on your passions and crafts.
[–]theNickHatter -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Having a strategy sets one up for failure I believe. It means that you see her as a prize that you somehow have to win, and ranking her based on a number means you're going to behave differently if she's very attractive - meaning you're more likely to fumble because you'll be nervous.
Not caring either way is a sign of real confidence. You don't need her. If you internalise this, I guarantee you that you will become much more desirable and non-needy.
[–]braintrejo 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link
When I was myself a few years back, I got friendzoned all the time. Game made me make so many mistakes until I eventually learned what women are looking for in men and adjusted myself to a new and more sexual person I'm comfortable with.
Not every man is born a natural. Some guys have way less contact with girls in their teenage years because of a billion different factors they don't control. Game gives these men the opportunity to explore their sexuality like we are supposed to.
[–]theNickHatter 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
I sincerely believe that had you been honest with your intentions and not befriended them under the guise of being friends first you might have not been "friendzoned".
I believe Mark Manson said something similar.
[–]braintrejo 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
How could I have known being honest about my (sexual) needs was the right thing to do? I was an extreme Nice Guy (look up Nice Guy Syndrome) who genuinely believed this was the right way to treat women. Until at one point I became lonely, depressed and hateful against women because they rejected me for guys I despised. I approached girls and did things that felt wrong to me because it went against my flawed nature, but the results were extremely positive. Being not-me and all the PUAs who supported me changed my life for only the better.
[–]SyrusDrake 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
I was an extreme Nice Guy (look up Nice Guy Syndrome) who genuinely believed this was the right way to treat women.
Same. This is what "just be yourself" people don't understand. For certain guys, being deliberately asexual around women is who they are. That idea that you respect women by never being sexual around them is hardwired into our brains. It's not a "strategy", it's the way we naturally interact with girls.
[–]braintrejo 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
And because Nice Guy characteristics are mostly inherited during childhood, it is very difficult to change this chode mentality after the age of 16-18. I believe massive action on the streets can make a Nice Guy an entirely new man in the most effective and fastest way possible, as it did with me. You not only gain self-love and self-respect, but also more sexual experiences with women and social skills beneficial for relationships with women, family, friends, partners and in your career.
[–]SyrusDrake 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
What would "massive action on the street" be?
[–]braintrejo 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Talk to as many girls on the streets as possible. If a girl catches your eye, you walk up to her and tell she's beautiful. Then you have a conversation, followed by having a coffee or you ask her number for a drink in the following days.
[–]SyrusDrake 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
If a girl catches your eye, you walk up to her and tell she's beautiful.
That sounds like a surefire way to make a lot of people uncomfortable. Also, the common consensus, even around here, seems to be not to compliment girls on their appearance or anything they have no control over.
[–]braintrejo 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
It "sounds" to you it may make girls feel uncomfortable, but I have observed that at least 90% of all approaches Ive done were positive. Two of my pickup buddies even managed to approach a girl, date her and fuck her on the same day, multiple times. Believe me, some girls will melt when you do this.
I don't care about the r/seddit rules on how to approach a girl on the streets. Nothing is absolute and everything is relative. All girls are different and react in unexpected ways to multiple openers. Find out what works best for you. But first you have to try it before coming to the conclusion it doesnt work for you.

Yea, r/seddit is actually a genuine sub that has nothing to do with seduction. I have figured this out a while ago but to this day I couldn't find out what it is about. Anyway...
Until a while ago, I probably would have tried to explain myself but these days, I will just openly admit that you're most likely right. I have no own experience to base this opinion on, it's just what I've picked up from other sources. I never approached any girl or seen anyone else do it. I just always "knew" that this isn't the way to do it because girls don't like being talked to by random men.

The choice is yours bro. Create your own chances by approaching that one beautiful girl on the streets you'll never see again otherwise. Dont let your love life depend on coincidence:

I define "Game" as: Lying, DHVs, routines, negs, calculated and manipulated conversation - effectively thinking subconsciously "she won't like me as I am therefore I need to do all these special techniques to make her know that I'm high value / I need to drop her value down or she will think she's too good for me".
That's where you are wrong kiddo
You're entitled to your opinion but I think many would consider those things as part of the Game "corpus".
[–]Roman_Stallion 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
True: you don’t need game, but game really matters imho. Most people’s story: sexless, find out about the community, read a lot because it’s easier, start going out using canned routines, get some results. By the time you try some more natural stuff, you have internalized the key principles (those that really matter, like kino) and maybe a couple of routines you really like. So in the end you get laid more just using principles, but to get there you need some canned stuff.
[–]AragorntheMighty 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Is there a good post discussing Kino and how to really use it?
[–]Arcenturion 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
This sentiment isn't new. In fact, it's more than a bit annoying that every now and then, some pickup veteran who has managed to internalize tactics to the point where they're second nature, will want to feel better about himself and say "hey guys, I've learned that all you really need is to be yourself! Don't bother with 'game.' That just works on damaged women!"
(vomit)
Having said that, there is some truth in your article. What I would disagree with are these assertions: game only works on 'damaged' women (no, it works on anyone with a pulse in the same way that marketing works on anyone with a pulse and how any other influence-methodology-based-on-real-world-experience-and-understanding-psychology works on anyone with a pulse) and that because game isn't worth learning because it can make you seem like you're putting on "an act"
You define game as: Lying, DHVs, routines, negs, calculated and manipulated conversation
Lying: White lies will always have their purpose. For example, if you like your job but think your employer is a piece of shit, the smart thing to do would be to lie about your opinion if asked about it while he can hear you.
DHVs: It's always important to know which behaviors and characteristics are attractive and which ones aren't. Even if you're a naturally attractive guy who can have success just by "speaking his truth," it's still smart to know DHVs in the same way that it's smart to have a map even if you're familiar with the territory.
Routines: If you're a beginner, routines can help familiarize you with the mechanics of interacting with women. Almost no one teaches them these days though.
Calculated and manipulated conversation: It is very liberating to say things without filter and attract women you genuinely like, but it often takes time and experience (with 'calculated' conversation) to get there. That's where 1000+ approaches come in. Do you really think you could get to where you are now by just "being your genuine self?"
Out of curiosity, what would you have your younger pre-game-self do instead of learning from Torero et al and getting the experience that pickup provides?
[–]theNickHatter 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Do you really think you could get to where you are now by just "being your genuine self?"
If you own your shit, and deal with your weaknesses then yes.
My younger self would try to impress and please, because he wants her approval and validation so much, and sees her as the prize.
Myself now would see the interaction as two human beings of equal value getting to know each other, and not see her as a prize to be won, or some magical fairy who will fix my life.
[–]Arcenturion 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That makes sense. I agree with what you're suggesting, but at the same time I'd say it's still necessary to get 1000+ approaches under your belt while learning game techniques and strategies under that paradigm (though you don't have to be analytical about them in the moment)
[–]TheXXL 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The biggest problem is the definition of "game". What is the definition of "game"? Ask 1000 guys, you will get 1000 different definitions. The deciding factor in being successful with seduction is to adopt a certain mindset that is not existent in many guys heads due to a lack of a male role model during their childhood, and the constant bombardment with feminizing bullshit from society and the media. This might be a "game" topic, but what else? Simple concepts like "show her your intentions", "be confident", "dress well", "make her feel good, by making her laugh" and so on. I mean seriously... can anybody call this basic shit, "game"?
It's basic male behavior! It has been eradicated and overridden in most guys brains due to mentioned feminist influences. So if someone says "be yourself" he doesn't mean be a scared little girl, but be that hungry, curious, playful but strong man you really are, deep inside. Stop being scared you could be hurt for being a imperfect creation, show the girl you want, that you want her.
The real game in this sense is the manipulative approach on girls. This is nothing natural, and not needed. You don't have to lie to her, you don't have to make her believe you are the shit if you aren't, you don't have to play your stupid routines like a robot. Those might raise your success, but this is mainly up to chance, and the time is better spent on being real instead of putting up a fucked up fake character.
[–]SyrusDrake 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I agree that "game" probably really isn't needed. As in "you shouldn't lie to and manipulate girls to get them into bed". Not because it only works on "low-quality women" but because it's a shitty thing to do.
But as you said, many men are lacking basic insights, myself included. For all my life, I was afraid to even touch a woman, and I still am. I didn't realize that it was okay to initiate light physical contact to let a woman know you're interested in her. I didn't realize it's okay to let a woman know you are sexually interested in her and most woman won't accuse you of rape for it. Being like that, being a "man" isn't really "be yourself" though, if you grow up as a "Nice Guy", those behaviors are hardwired into your brain.
Are those basics "game"? Maybe. Maybe not. I don't know. But the bottom line is that many young guys need some sort of instruction for what seems like a very basic human interaction.
[–]TheXXL 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have been this for too long too. I come exactly from that background, and i woke up just about 10 years ago in my early 30's.
It is similar to being a child. At one point you start, and you don't know how to walk, speak, eat with fork and knife etc. Most things are learnt by treating it like a game. But, at one point you have internalized it. It is the same with the instructions here, those are made to internalize them. You could say it starts out as game, so far i agree, but at one point it becomes the real you.
"You don't need lessons in X" or "just be yourself" is usually a "lesson" propagated by people who are already good at X, either through practice or talent. And if you're already good at something, especially through talent, it's incredibly difficult to teach other people or even realize they need teaching to begin with. Furthermore, I think "game" is a stupid term. It heavily implies that you're trying to manipulate women into sex or relationships and if you are trying to do that, you're an asshat. However, even though I'm not nearly as "advanced" as other users here, I have learned a lot through places like seddit. Not how to lie to and deceive women but things like "You're not as shit as you may think you are", "You don't need to look like Hugh Jackman in "Logan" for women to be attracted to you", "Most women won't cry "rape" if you smile at them" and "A woman won't just magically figure out you are interested in her, you'll have to start touching her eventually". Yea, this may all seem obvious to you but that's the point. It is obvious to you but not to many other people. You just do it naturally. In my case, and thousands of men are similar in that way, "being myself" means never flirting, never touching, always only interacting with women purely platonically and hoping she will make a move.

Why do so many Gamers see rejection as failure?
I get what you're saying, however - just because she rebuffs your advance it doesn't mean you've failed. Don't make her decision about you. There could be a 1,000 reasons why she rebuffed you that have nothing to do with you.
[–]gtaquestion111 points 8 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
The only question that matters: how much did you get laid from this?
Actual numbers. The amount of times you got laid from these 1000 approaches is the most key part of this info and takeaways. And that stat is nowhere to be found.
How would this information have any value at all? It would not incorporate any other influence that might lead to not having the desired outcome, influences that are appearing even if the girl was manipulated (you call that game) into having sex.
I accept I may well be down-voted into oblivion for posting this
I honestly wonder why you even care about votes on such an unimportant thing as a random internet forum... I certainly don't. But back to topic, i agree on every point.
