I heard somewhere it’s very difficult for men and women to have a normal friendship in general because for at least one (or both) of the parties involved, the friendship is built on the basis of sexual attraction.

Now in my situation there was a girl I met. Before I really got to know her we had sex. I got to know her more and more and we had sex a few more times and I realized I really liked her as a person. But this was not a normal situation. I liked her because we could be weird with each other. But our interactions made her feel like more of a sister to me than anything else and we apparently both felt like we acted a lot like brother and sister.

We eventually stopped having sex but stayed really good friends. I never wanted to have sex with her after that and by all accounts it never felt like she wanted to with me either.

Well, she was in a relationship for a while and I was happy for her but (as it goes with most new relationships) we didn’t talk so much and a lot of her free time was spent with him. I was ok with that, I was happy for her.

Fast forward to today, she actually has been broken up with him for a bit and we slowly regained our old connection and started hanging out again. Once again completely platonically.

The other night we went out drinking with other friends of mine as well, and during the night she started making sexual advances at me. It came as a bit of a surprise and made me a bit uncomfortable.

I know we had all been drinking but is this some kind of indication that she never really lost that interest with me? I really don’t want her to hang onto a friendship with hopes of it becoming more than that because I don’t see her that way. But this got me thinking that, is this always the case with men and women who spend a lot of time together?
