Look at the Yad daygame video "3 Coversation Hacks".

He explains how to be challenging with a girl instead of being a needy try-hard. He includes an infield where he adds a "ding" to the soundtrack whenever he challenges her. He says stuff like, "I don't believe you" or "no way" every time she tries to qualify herself.

You don't have to practice this on beautiful girls at first. Try asking your little sister what she studied at school today, or ask your buddy what he did at work.

Pay attention to your vibe and attitude. Be friendly, interested and nice, without saying "cool" and "that's awesome" to everything they say. Even though you were fairly skeptical with them, they should walk away thinking they've had a stimulating conversation with you.

Compliments are not a bad thing, the trick is to do it right. Most guys don't.

The kind of compliments women like are the ones that a) feel earned, b) make her feel special, and c) make her feel sexy without breaking sexual tension (i.e. indirect).

The kind she doesn't like are the ones that a) feel incongruous, b) are over the top or cliche (OMG ur so beautiful), or c) belong in the bedroom.

So here's some other tips:

Compliment a girl either as an icebreaker or after she's qualified herself/worked for your attention. If you ask her a question and she lights up and starts chatting you up, show some appreciation for her enthusiasm and passion for the subject.
Never directly compliment her body unless you're making out. Women like hearing how hot they are, but not when they're still just flirting. Its too direct and kills off any desire for her to chase you. You make yourself a sure thing, and that's boring.
Compliment things that are unique or special about her. Can be something as simple as a fashion accessory, or some personality trait you're qualifying her for, or a cool story, or give her something to do. Compliments work best when they're grounded in something she's demonstrated - for you.
Compliments are like touch and attention, it's a reward you give her for impressing you. If you hand out validation like Halloween candy, it loses meaning for her and makes you look needy. The more she does to earn it, the safer it is.
Ideally a compliment should be something that confirms their self-opinion - what they think of themselves. When a woman feels strong in her identity, she feels more sexually adventurous and feels more earned rapport with you. That's why sexy compliments work better later on, when she already feels a sexual connection with you.

Women dont like compliments on their looks because its superficial. Doesnt mean you shouldn't compliment her on other things that she actually has control over

Using compliments may not be the best thing in game but it’s not a bad way to start leveling up and getting experience with girls. Virtually every other method of flirting takes at least 2x effort to learn and that’s assuming you get lucky and can actually learn it. Like maybe some people can figure out algebra but some game is like particle physics.

Sure maybe the particle physics type game is end all and be all of game, but you’re not gonna not know any math and then learn that kind of game. You need to learn some beginnner basic game before getting there, just like you need to at least understand stuff like algebra, geometry, etc before learning particle physics.

Don’t shortcut yourself and try to skip to particle physics type game. You need foundational understanding first you can easily learn from just complimenting girls first.

I told a girl that she was pretty on Friday almost right after I met her and I got laid. Just because it doesn't work for one guy on Youtube doesn't mean that you should discredit it yourself. You should go out to try and test for yourself. There's also timing. Giving it to a person you've spoken to for 30 seconds vs 10 minutes is a massive difference. One gives you enough time to build rapport giving her a reason to value your opinion and the other not.
