Not a popular opinion to have nowadays, but boys NEED a father in their life. Single mothers can only do so much, and that isn't to make any single mom's feel bad at all. Really though, boys and girls ideally need both a mother and father.

The child would need to have some innate traits that can be developed and guided into masculinity, leadership, etc. Not every boy has it in him to be an "hvm," especially to women.

Fathers can help teach and reinforce hard skills and soft skills, and navigate male hierarchies, which helps boys end up in a better place than they would on their own. A very fatherly part of parenthood is rough play and kind of razzing your kid, which women don't typically do.

Male peers are also extremely important. Boys will have an adversarial relationship with their fathers at some point, just like women do with their mothers. Boys need friends.

Recently this topic was discussed on Not Alone Pod by Valeria about how there is a lack of healthy role models for men. You can be the best parents to your kid, but their environment such as media, peers etc will ultimately shape them. In this aspect it is out of our hands as parents, we can only provide our kids a healthy foundation

Having mature parents with a secure attachment style will do wonders for a man. Unconditional love and support from parents is also a cheat code in life; no matter what happens, they will always have that to fall back on. It allows them to take more risk and lead more freely without being overwhelmed by a fear of loneliness/failure.

The men who do not have that support structure growing up and continuing into adulthood may suffer in different ways.

Young men need to have a healthy male role model in life. Otherwise things you can do as a mother to a young man would be to have him take up responsibilities as a child especially pre-teen or early teen.

Taking up households chores maybe a start. Make it a Routine so he can adjust to it. Such as taking out the trash or helping with dishes. Do not always help him, sometimes let him try on his own. Introduce him to a physical contact sport where he can be around his peers that would bring out the competitive spirit in him.

Honestly from personal experience, I've always hated taking instructions from my parents and teachers as a young man but through playing sports (Martial arts & rugby) I've learned Alot about what it means to be a man from my coaches. Young men need tough love to grow. Especially if you're single mother, take him to a sporting club.
