How many of you moved to a new city/state to start over completely fresh?

So true!! I actually decided to travel around the world after divorce and then landed in South America and have set up a base there. However, as ex wife (still getting used to that term) is still in Europe with my adult daughter and my son (also adult) lives in another country it means more travel. It is gut wrenching to drive past the family home that I worked hard for and all the memories of the area still have the ability to crush a lot within. Distance has pros and cons, but I think a new start far away can help reinvent yourself. Just need a decent ravel budget. Anyone else moved to the other side of the world? Im new to this forum but keen to engage as I have battled it out alone over the last years and it is not good for my soul. 🙏

How does moving 1000 miles to the other end of Europe sound? She hopes we will be neighbours, but my plan shocked her, me signing agreements with friends to start a Dutch area in Bulgaria shocked everyone. A new adventure, a new wife!

No kids here, moved a few states away to be near family and for a good job opportunity. Some days I feel like I made the wrong choice because I left the friends I had where I used to live, and that area was home to me for 7 years, but I also know that having a better career opportunity will be best for me in the end.

I was born and raised in CA and always wanted to get out. Before I got married, I went to PNW and enjoyed the greenery. Later when I was married, the wife had absolutely no interest in moving out of CA.

About a year after my divorce, it occurred to me I could do whatever I wanted, including moving out of state, so it became part of my plan to move once both my kids turned 18.

My planning mostly included considering WHERE I wanted to go, more than how I was going to make it happen. For my interests, political leanings and looking at maximum my WFH income, ID and TN were at the top of my list. Then about 8mo before my youngest would graduate high school (and about 11mo before he would turn 18, I got a job offer that included paid relocation to TN. Employer agreed to wait up to a year for me to relocate, which I did about 10mo ago.

In AA, it’s common to hear about alcoholics moving to some new place to get a “fresh start.” With alcoholics, we often drink to escape our feelings and problems, so because moving doesn’t actually address the underlying problem, the simply resume drinking on the new place. I say this as context for what I’m about to say: moving somewhere for a fresh start may or may not work, depending on what your real reasons for moving are. An alcoholic is still an alcoholic, no matter where he lives. What’s important is addressing any issues you feel make a fresh start so appealing.

I'm living with my folks in my hometown all of a sudden too, fighting for time with my kids and ready for this damn nightmare to be finalized.

Time to move to a new city! That does sound really appealing.
