I'll keep it as short as I can but I'm just looking for some perspectives. My wife filed for divorce about three months ago by showing up to my work, saying I was lying to her and drinking behind her back and that's the last I heard from her. She changed the locks, packed all my things, texted me they were ready and that's it. I drank alcohol before we were married and it never seemed to be that much of an issue but towards the end of the marriage (couple years, no kids) she essentially demanded I quit drinking entirely. We had some conversations about it and I always asked why? She never could give a reason, just didn't like alcohol. Anyway, a bill got wrang up wrong (drinking NA's not regular) and when she found it that's when she decided it was time for divorce. That was the only thing she pointed to that day and I know for certain they were not alcoholic beers. A simple clerical error. She also left three beer cans on my lawnmower. I have no idea when they were even from. I do know that I had quite drinking four about four months just to keep the peace. I did have a cocktail once when I was stressed after I said I'd quit drinking but I admitted and apologized for that.
Leading up to this she started doing things like counting beers I would drink, made a calendar of when I could (like a golf tournament) and how many I could drink while I was there. Kept trying to catch me drinking when I wasn't, and told me that until I went at least six months without drinking we couldn't have children. Everything else in the marriage was actually pretty good. I gaslit myself for awhile about being an alcoholic or something like that but everyone I know has essentially told me to stop and they have never even seen me drunk enough to slur my words. The only thing she really told me was she was afraid of what WOULD happen one day because of alcohol (DWI, affair, you name it). I didn't go to any bars during the marriage, as I was banned from doing so anyway. Just occasionally beer while golfing or watching football. Stuff like that.
I wish I would have just gave up the alcohol from the get go, it really wasn't that important to me. I just didn't see why because it didn't seem to be a big issue before the marriage. I'm starting to think she just didn't want to be married and found the only thing she could to blame it on me. But I really don't know. It's hard to know with zero communication. Anyway, any advice would help. (And yes, I have a lawyer and all that is progressing).
