And IPV studies show when IPV is not bidirectional, women perpetration is the same or higher than men. Even same sex lesbian relationships have higher IPV rates than gay or heterosexual.

And men rarely report being a victim of that violence so expect the numbers to be even more skewed against women.

[–]AdVivid9056 10 points11 points12 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Cannot stress this enough.
If you keep in mind that men tend to not report violence against them the real numbers would be so shocking.

Strenghtens my opinion that it is about being a shitty person rather than gender.

You can check here

Among large population samples, 57.9% of IPV reported was bi-directional, 42% unidirectional; 13.8% of the unidirectional violence was male to female (MFPV), 28.3% was female to male (FMPV)

that's a myth. it's 29% when removing past relationships with men. bisexual women have a 61% lifetime dv rate from 89.5% men. an alarming 29% of men have experienced ipv in their lifetimes, and 35% of heterosexual women. 36% of bi men have experienced ipv from majority women, which is the stat I think people don't bring up enough.

This reports on a study on female perpetration by the CDC: women are the highest perpetrators of DV.

IPV

[+]AwkwardButNotUgly -4 points-3 points-2 points 1 year ago (3 children) | Copy Link

2001 study on 18-28 year olds

If you were to compare this study to the more recent and relevant ones, you’d find surprising differences. I’ll be taking into account the most recent CDC study (national intimate partner and sexual violence study)

For one, the methodology is better and the definition of IPV is broader now. It includes sexual and psychological violence (the 2001 study only considers physical violence as domestic violence)

Most recent NISVS shows that women are disproportionately affected by severe forms of IPV. 41% of women and 26% of men have experienced some form of contact sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime

More recent surveys emphasize the importance of non-physical forms of abuse such as coercive control, emotional manipulation, and financial abuse. This broader perspective captures a more complete picture of IPV, where women are more frequently the victims of controlling and abusive behaviors, even if reciprocal violence may occur in some relationships

Recent studies also place stronger emphasis on contextualizing the violence. For example, violence initiated by women is often understood within the framework of self-defense or retaliation. Women may be more likely to act in response to a prior history of abuse, which complicates the notion that women are simply the aggressors in nonreciprocal violence

While the 2001 study found that men were more likely to be injured in cases of reciprocal violence, newer research highlights that women face significantly higher rates of severe physical injury. Men’s injuries may occur, but the long-term impacts, including PTSD and chronic health conditions, are more pronounced among women

Modern research also considers coercive control (a form of psychological abuse) as a critical aspect of IPV, which was less discussed in the earlier study. This form of control tends to be more commonly perpetrated by men and has severe long-term consequences for women.

Newer research also benefits from more sophisticated data collection tools and methods, such as the ongoing NISVS, which covers lifetime experiences of various forms of IPV, ensuring a more representative and nuanced understanding of violence across gender lines.

https://www.cdc.gov/nisvs/about/index.html

They have detailed reports on stalking, sexual violence and IPV. I strongly suggest you check those out as well :)

Almost 24% of all relationships had some violence, and half (49.7%) of those were reciprocally violent. In nonreciprocally violent relationships, women were the perpetrators in more than 70% of the cases. Reciprocity was associated with more frequent violence among women (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]=2.3; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.9, 2.8), but not men (AOR=1.26; 95% CI=0.9, 1.7). Regarding injury, men were more likely to inflict injury than were women (AOR=1.3; 95% CI=1.1, 1.5), and reciprocal intimate partner violence was associated with greater injury than was nonreciprocal intimate partner violence regardless of the gender of the perpetrator (AOR=4.4; 95% CI=3.6, 5.5).

- Differences in Frequency of Violence and Reported Injury Between Relationships With Reciprocal and Nonreciprocal Intimate Partner Violence

The median percentage of men who severely assaulted a partner was 5.1%, compared to a median of 7.1% for severe assaults by the women in these studies. The median percentage that the rate of severe assaults by women was of the rate of severe assaults by men is 145%, which indicates that almost half again more women than men severely attacked a partner.

- Gender symmetry and mutuality in perpetration of clinical-level partner violence: Empirical evidence and implications for prevention and treatment (a meta-analysis of over 200 studies)

This bibliography examines 286 scholarly investigations: 221 empirical studies and 65 reviews and/or analyses, which demonstrate that women are as physically aggressive, or more aggressive, than men in their relationships with their spouses or male partners. The aggregate sample size in the reviewed studies exceeds 371,600.

- References Examining Assaults by Women on Their Spouses or Male Partners: An Annotated Bibliography

Evidence from 85 studies was examined to identify risk factors most strongly related to intimate partner physical abuse perpetration and victimization. The studies produced 308 distinct effect sizes. These effect sizes were then used to calculate composite effect sizes for 16 perpetration and 9 victimization risk factors ... A large effect size was calculated between physical violence victimization and the victim using violence toward her partner. Moderate effect sizes were calculated between female physical violence victimization and depression and fear of future abuse.

Nothing recent, probably because it goes against the feminist agenda and the research/studies won't get funding.

It's not a myth:

According to a 2011 study produced in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, domestic physical abuse among lesbian cohabiting couples is 35.4%, almost two times the rate of abuse found among heterosexual couples. Other studies place the prevalence of domestic violence among lesbian couples even higher than that. A 2010 study by the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control found that the rate of intimate partner violence (IPV) among lesbians is a stunning 40.4%. Another study in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology found that the rate of lesbian IPV is 47.5%. This means that nearly half of all women in lesbian domestic lifestyles have been abused by their partners.

Further statistics have also shed light on the understudied epidemic of sexual intimate partner violence (IPV) among women in same-sex partnerships. One study produced by the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault found that 33% of women have been sexually assaulted by another woman. This statistic prompted leftist publications Slate and Marie Claire to pen articles about the reality of lesbian rape and sexual abuse. Two more studies, one published in the Journal of Lesbian Studies (2008) and another in Violence and Victims (1997), suggest that rates of lesbian sexual abuse in domestic partnerships could be upwards of 55% and 42%, respectively. This translates to about 1 in 2 women who have been victims of sex abuse in a lesbian relationship.

Comparatively, sexual abuse among heterosexual domestic relationships is estimated to be 4.4% according to the National Institutes of Health. Some epidemiologists may argue that high abuse prevalence among homosexual women includes “lifetime risk”, which incorporates abuse faced in childhood. Yet, when these variables are taken into consideration, we still see alarmingly high rates of lesbian IPV.

Around 28% of male-identifying respondents and 41% of female-identifying respondents reported having been in a relationship where a partner was abusive.

...lesbian women were more likely than gay men to report having been in an abusive same-sex relationship (41% and 28% respectively)

EDIT // Fixed a link.

Your first link says:

The National Violence Against Women (NVAW) survey found that 21.5% of men and 35.4% of women reporting a history of cohabitation with a same-sex partner had experienced physical abuse in their lifetimes

note it says “reporting a history of cohabitation with a same sex partner,” and does not mention the orientation of the individual or the gender of the perpetrator.

Transgender respondents reported lifetime physical abuse rates by a partner of 34.6%, versus 14.0% for gay or lesbian individuals,

your second link isn’t available.

from your third link:

Separated by sex of participant, 67 lesbians (25%) and 71 (23%) gay men reported that they had been victims of same-sex IPV. Twenty-five lesbians (9.3%) and 26 gay men (8.3%) reported they had perpetrated same-sex IPV. There were no differences in the percentage of gay vs. lesbian participants who indicated that they had been victims,
There was no difference in the proportion of gay men and lesbians who reported IPV.

Although we did not find sex differences, some previous research suggested that gay men experience IPV more often, whereas others suggest that lesbians are more frequently involved in IPV

your fourth study is from 1997, nearly 30 years ago. I highly doubt it has relevant results by now.

[–]sakura_drop 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Nice cherry picking. If you want more current data you can refer to the latter study I included in my comment:

Around 28% of male-identifying respondents and 41% of female-identifying respondents reported having been in a relationship where a partner was abusive.

...lesbian women were more likely than gay men to report having been in an abusive same-sex relationship (41% and 28% respectively)

For example, the CDC found that 89.5% of bisexual women reported only male perpetrators of intimate partner physical violence, rape, and/or stalking and that almost a third of lesbian women who have experienced such incidents have had one or more male perpetrators.

almost a third of lesbian women who have experienced such incidents have had one or more male perpetrators.

[–]sakura_drop 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So one study, which conflates DV with rape and stalking... as I said, such evidence doesn't necessarily disprove the results numerous other studies I've provided.

[+]bavcccccuppp 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What do you think of the countless studies that cite that bisexual women are most likely to be IPV victims, from around 49-65%, from vast majority male partners?

[–]sakura_drop 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Which studies would those be? And it still wouldn't necessarily disprove that there's a disproportionately high amount of DV to be found among lesbian couples, or that numerous studies - which I have posted in this thread - show women are the majority perpetrators of unilateral DV.

[–]bavcccccuppp 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s way higher amongst bi women and their male partners.

61% of bisexual women have experienced forms of rape and physical violence by an intimate partner as compared to 35% of straight women

Sexual violence is common. More than 1 in 4 lesbian women, almost half of bisexual women, and over 1 in 4 heterosexual women in the U.S. were raped during their lifetimes.

The NISVS data provide insights about the perpetrators and forms of IPV involving bisexual women. For instance, more than 90% of bisexual women IPV victims reported a male perpetrator, a statistic that mirrors the reports of female heterosexual victims.

[+]bavcccccuppp -2 points-1 points0 points 1 year ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What I’m saying is domestic violence knows no gender, it merely knows circumstance.

[–]sakura_drop 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I actually agree with this sentiment, however you're the one who seems to be determined to push the narrative that it's primarily a male perpetrated issue in this thread, contrary to the various pieces of data that have been posted.

Women don't go to war and risk their lives like the men do when it happens, similarly women don't face consequences when hitting or shouting at a man like men would, therefore it happens more.

No surprise lesbian relationships have the highest reported domestic violence, 2 people who are used to being above consequences.

Most women aren't particularly kind or empathetic towards men, nor are they typically geared towards conflict resolution. Generally, the women who are capable of empathy, understanding and conflict resolution with men are rare, and often shamed or attack by other women(they are called "pickmes" by modern culture).

On a cultural level, women are not really taught how to treat men and rarely ever held accountable for the ways they mistreat men, with a lot of harmful behaviors towards men often just being dismissed as "women being women". Women aren't really taught how to self-regulate the way men often are, because it is not expected to them to the same extent.

Men are also often conditioned to take on roles of leadership, which involve a great deal of patience, understanding and fairness(otherwise it will be a very short reign), because those are the roles that women often expect men to take in relationships and that women most often reward with their attention, approval and bodies.

Violence by female rulers

Study shows queens were far more likely to resort to violence than men

Wars by women 39% more often

Throughout history, there are countless stories of powerful male kings declaring and fighting major wars. For a long time, it was assumed that women were less aggressive and more likely to maintain peace than go to war. However, this study now shows that queens have waged war a shocking 39% more often than kings over the centuries.

The paper, written by political scientists Oeindrila Dube of the University of Chicago and SP Harish of McGill University, analyzed a sample of mainly European kings and queens who ruled between 1480 AD and 1913, and included 193 rulers in 18 countries.

More recent violence

Many feminists have argued that the dismantling of patriarchy and the rise of feminist leaders of the higher sex would obviously lead to less violent conflict.

The authors of the book Why Leaders Fight analyzed every world leader from 1875 to 2004 and statistically examined gender differences in military aggression. They found that 36% of female leaders initiated at least one militarized dispute, while only 30% of male leaders did the same.

Example: Hillary Clinton

In the US, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called on President Obama to take military action in Libya in 2011. Male leaders, including Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and National Security Advisor Thomas Donilon, opposed the military action.

Clinton is best known on the Internet for her horribly misandrist statement in which she claimed, "Women have always been the main victims of wars." Women lose their husbands, their fathers, their sons in battle. "Women have always been the main victims..." This quote is from a speech given on November 17, 1998.

Other Female Rulers

  • The most famous Russian empress, Catherine the Great, usurped the throne of her own husband (who was eventually killed) and waged furious wars with the Crimean Khanate and the Ottoman Empire throughout her reign. She harshly suppressed some peasant revolts in the country and crushed Poland, which was later partitioned.

  • Elizabeth of Russia usurped the throne during the military coup of the young Tsar Ivan VI (who was only one year old) and led the country during two major European wars: the War of the Austrian Succession and the Seven Years' War.

-Isabella of France, Queen of England, dethroned and executed her own husband, King Edward II, in close collaboration with her lover.

-Catherine de Medici is considered one of the main organizers of the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre; she was also one of the inspirers of the religious wars in France.

-Empress Dowager Cixi, before becoming empress, had married many members of the Tang royal family

No, but apparently no one is going to read more than the title 🤷

[–]mrkpxx 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yes, basically, it's the same as in marriage. The woman is much more aggressive and controlling than the man. Why should it be any different in politics?

Yes, you are simply ignoring scientific findings. What doesn't feel good can't be reality. Feels over reals, isn't it? Feel free to teach yourself:

Women's violence against women

https://www.spectator.com.au/2023/07/lesbian-domestic-violence-proves-its-not-just-a-male-problem/

Studies on lesbian violence show that women can be more violent in intimate relationships than men. Violence among lesbians is two to three times more common. Violence between same-sex couples is half to a third less common than in heterosexual couples.

In a relationship between two men, violence is FIVE TIMES less common than between two women.

A victim rate of 43.8% was found for lesbians, making them the second most affected group by violence after bisexual women (61.1%) and ahead of heterosexual women (35%). Gay men are at 26%.

Violence against children

The media and government also often portray child abuse as a “father problem.” However, one of the greatest risk factors for child abuse and neglect, identified in virtually all studies, is children living in a single-parent female household.

In fact, most child abuse occurs in households where the biological father is not present.

Domestic violence

Women are more likely to be verbally and physically aggressive towards their partners than men, according to a study presented at a symposium on intimate partner violence.

The analysis found that women were more likely to be physically aggressive towards their partners than men and that men were more likely to be physically aggressive towards their same-sex counterparts.

In addition, women showed significantly higher levels of controlling behaviour than men, which had a significant impact on physical aggression in both sexes.

“This study shows that women have a desire to control their partners and are more likely to engage in physical aggression than men. This suggests that domestic violence is not motivated by patriarchal values.”

Domestic violence is female

Violence of female rulers

Study shows that queens were much more willing to use violence than men

Wars 39% more often caused by women

Throughout history there are countless stories of powerful male kings declaring and fighting great wars. For a long time it was assumed that women were less aggressive and more likely to maintain peace than go to war. However, this study now shows that over the centuries queens have waged war a shocking 39% more often than kings.

White Feather

Women avoid violence when possible, but are then prepared to use their power to manipulate men. The right to vote was closely linked to conscription. Women refused to serve and preferred to give up their right to vote. (e.g.: Switzerland, USA)

A famous example is Operation The White Feather.

The white feather was given by women in England as a symbol of cowardice to men who did not want to go to war, knowing full well that they themselves were not obliged to do so.

Yeah I’ve seen all those and they exclude a lot of data to paint a specific picture. They are also not credible sources FFS. 🤦 Look at who does the killing in IPV and who is killed and then get back to me if your fee-fees are still okay once you’ve seen non-manipulated data about actual femicide.

The number one cause of death of a pregnant woman is by the male that impregnated her.

Reality is tough bro, I know. Big hugs.

This isn't evidence for or against female rulers. Female rulers were seen as weaker and so were more likely to face challenge internally or other rulers seeing what they could get away with. This lead to additional wars unsurprisingly but not at the fault of female rulers. Female rulers were just like any other rulers with good and bad ones.

This stat has no modern day bearing and we should be better than to try and make this mean something now.

It quite literally is their fault, anything to excuse women huh? The civilians didn't start it themselves, what they have to send others to fight their battles just so they can look tough? That's still bad.

Even the article theorizes that it's probably less a gender thing and More a result of the división of duties.

Facts versus feelings. They have to write that otherwise the results won't be mentioned. The fact is that women tend to be more violent because they are more likely to seek control in order to overcome their fears.
