Do not ever ask your ex to take him back during your time they'll use that against you so fast. My advice is simple make him tired by being active as possible and wearing him out. Let him pick out his bedding and read him bedtime stories, fuckin easy pz lemon squeezy good luck

If you don't have anything from his bedroom at home, then take him shopping and let him pick some stuff out. Get a blanket he likes, like somebody else said, maybe a nightlight and maybe a stuffed animal.

That way, it's his, he's making it his room and so he will get more familiar and then more comfortable with it.

My problem has been breaking my son of co-sleeping, used to be that even if we (before the divorce) put him in his bed, he'd wake up in the middle of the night and get in our bed.

Last weekend he was here, I had him stay two nights in his room, two in mine, another in his, etc., he even got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night but went back to his bed.

This weekend, he spent three nights in a row in his room, he stayed in my room last night, I'm going to try to get him to stay the next two nights in his room.

Maybe surprisingly (or not), my son likes a lot of heavy blankets and that seems to help him.

I got him one of the GI surplus wool blankets (from One Thief Surplus) and he loves it. I added another, plus he has one I got when I was a kid, so he's got three heavy blankets on him and he seems to be happy.

I got some wool blankets from a place called Arcturus Gear, their "military" blankets are $38 each and if you buy three, you get 15% off, it's a really good deal for wool blankets (they're usually really expensive).

They're heavy and pretty nice, so something to consider.

The big thing is, make absolutely sure that you are not making it seem like he's doing something wrong when he says he's scared or not comfortable.

You may not be and may not intend to but if you're tired or frustrated, he'll pick up on it. So, make extra effort to let him know that you're not upset with him.

Agreed with just powering through. Let him know your there for him but build the bond and he will settle 😊

Maybe research it. See what professionals say. You might want to read more stories before bed and just stay with him a little bit so he can fall asleep. The. Gradually change it. Maybe a reward chart? Does he have a night light?

Recommend powering through it. It’s an adjustment but one that needs to be made. You don’t want it to become the precedent that he goes back to your ex whenever he asks.

Have you asked him what is making him uncomfortable?

How often is he to stay over?

How often do you take him for day trips?

You need to get him comfortable with you if he has been away for a while or sees you infrequently. Try to make outings fun and focused on things you want to do.

He is at the age where it can be scary to be away from Mom and his bed. It will be a process to win his trust and make him comfortable.
