They require it. Otherwise it isn't anything. It's not even business. Parents are the only people that provide in a relationship without reciprocity and even then there is an age at which that shifts.

It's like they don't understand that men also feel pressure to reciprocate. It's as if they are unable to seperate fiction from reality in order to understand that the woman would put in some of the work to keep the relationship intact (outside of the book's scenes). It's like they think their relationship should be like the ones portrayed on TikTok, where you are only shown the couple doing fun things without all of the chores and arguments. This is toddler level of accountability.

Imagine there was a fiction novel depicting a conventionally attractive woman doing everything the man wants without asking for anything in return. This doesn't just have to be sex like in those videos, but anything from doing the laundry to even fixing the car!

This would be immediately condemned as a patriarchal novel... yet the novels depicting tall, fit, dark-haired, handsome, young men (who essentially becomes the woman's glorified servant/intern/butler/slave) are all labelled as perfectly harmless.

I also read novels because when I try to have a love story, I always find people treating me like I'm just another fool in their flock that they can use.

But it's not a only man thing, and I don't think it's shameful because I'm just reading you now and there's no reason to say that men are incapable of giving love because in a relationship it's not just the man who can ruin it and I think that's obvious.

There's no reason to play the victim when both sexes can make the same mistakes.

I also like these stories because they're beautiful and they're FICTION, not because a divine relationship isn't real, but because they often focus only on the love part and nothing else.

And in this world not everything is love, so yes, that's why these novels exist.

If the person sees them like that it's a sign of other problems, but it's wrong to have that victim perspective of the world.

Relationships are difficult and they don't just need love, but also effort to be divine.

So there is no reason to attack the man and say that it is his fault that such a relationship is so fantastical when in reality love is that complicated in general.

And "patriarchy" isn't the correct verbage. People need to stop using that to excuse behavior. People enjoy the advantages of society, without the responsibility of being in that society. People are desperate to be victims because with victimhood comes benefits. 1) normally if you want something in life you must work hard and earn it. When you're a victim people just give it to you. 2) If you're a victim then you can't be held responsible for the behaviors you chose which put you in your situation.

People need to remember: being the victim doesn't make you good, just weak. It's possible you're horrible like the person oppressing you, but just weaker.

Romance novels aren’t about equality. They are about extreme hypergamy and men going to huge efforts and expense to please women with nothing in return.

It says much that such stories are the number one selling book genre, consumed almost exclusively by women. Most women dream of being provided for (by a man) which is a big reason we have a gender earnings gap.
