So my wife and I are going through our divorce and it’s about two months away from being finalized. She is moving out after we have been taking turns being in the house with the kids (we have 3) over the last few months and we have started talking about splitting up the assets and possessions. I’m keeping the house and am buying out the equity and we’re splitting the debt pretty evenly. My question is about possessions and household goods. We both made lists of what we want but there is a lot neither one of us are particularly attached to. I’ve made a flat offer for everything we own that she hasn’t specifically said she wanted - even though she doesn’t want them (beds, furniture, kitchen stuff, etc) she still wants to be compensated for her half, which I understand. She said my offer was far too low (which I disagree with) but doesn’t have a counteroffer.

Assuming we can’t reach a number on this, what happens to it all? Does the judge really get so involved that he makes decisions on minor property like that? Unsure what that process is like. She thinks that she should receive enough from me (in the form of equity payment plus whatever number we come up with for possessions) so that she can make a down payment for a house and buy furniture etc. Any insight or thoughts are appreciated.
