Ask about feelings and experiences instead of brute facts.

Like, say you ask her 'what do you do?' She says "I'm a dental hygienist."

Your first instinct is probably to ask her a purely factual follow-up question, like "oh, how long have you been doing that for?"

Instead, ask something like "what's the toughest part of the job?"

I mean, even that sounds like a "job interview question," but it's a start. It wouldn't help you at all if I thought up some super clever thing and told you "yeah, just come up with something equally clever literally on the spot next time." Something that would be easy to think of on the spot is a better example.

The example I gave is a good start, because it's prompting her to talk about how she feels and things she's seen and experienced, rather than just reciting dry, propositional facts. When she talks about the tough parts of the job, she is going to be feeling a little bit of the frustration that comes with them. And feeling something is better than feeling nothing.

Her response will probably also give you something to riff off of, make a joke about, or perhaps even get her into telling you a funny story about something crazy that happened to her at work.

If she doesn't really offer much and just gives some dry response like "oh, you know, the paper work sucks," you can kind of take charge and ask more penetrative questions or make tentative assumptions and prompt her to weigh in on them, like "you must have seen colours of teeth I didn't even know existed" or "do you still count as a dental hygienist when you're working on somebody who comes in with no teeth?" Or, if I'm feeling a little bit of gallows humour, I might say something like "oh, it's good you're the hygienist… never go full dentist, because did you know their profession has one of the highest suicide rates?" You'd have to say it with the right vibe to make it darkly funny and not just off-putting, though.

Or let it be off-putting. Turn people off. Part of having more fun conversations is not playing it safe and being okay risking the conversation going south and abruptly ending. "Low risk" is also "low reward" and leads to constant polite but "boring" conversations that the woman does not care about.

On the contrary, plenty of men and women are the same way as you. Civilization is not in a dating crisis. You could focus more on being a good active listener and using your "logic" skills to ask good follow-ups based on topics that she has clearly demonstrated high interest.

Your words pass through too many filters before you speak them. Start just saying things as you think of it, that will help you move towards emotional conversation. For this reason, routines/ scripts/ gambits exist, they help create a dynamic and playful conversation.

You see a moment of silence or you don't like the vibe, include a funny/interesting story. For example: 'I see you have a ring/bracelet/necklace, it reminds me of... [insert a funny story].' Simple as that. If you include 2-3 funny or interesting stories in a 20-minute conversation, that's more than enough, too much can be just as bad as none at all.

Change your mindset about the whole interaction and conversation. Your objective is not to pass information, conclude or balance anything, but to trigger spectrum of emotions, no matter how silly or out of the pattern context could become. Just have fun together, stay laidback, positive and playful.

Try telling a joke 😉 i think you're trying to play it too safe - hence you're going into logical mode to protect yourself emotionally. Make your main goal to have fun rather than having the goal be "to talk". And be more okay with failure and rejection

When talking about something, focus on talking about how you feel or felt about it, instead of just the logical facts about it. In the same way, ask her about how does she feel about things.

Logical: "this room looks spacious, it has a nice big bed"

Emotional: "this room makes me feel calm and relaxed" - she gets more useful information this way

Learn how to be humorous; dont take anything too personal, be able to laught at yourself, dont offend anyone and plus, be authentic. Having all those caracteristis will create your unique style to conversate and I think that is a big plus.

You just stop talking about the topic and say OOGA BOOGA or something similar.

You’re only logical because you feel some misplaced obligation to do so, but that’s just been drilled into you. You need to get in touch with your inner absurdist. Watch. Ask me any question that you would normally feel compelled to answer logically.
