When I cold approach, I usually continue the conversation until we set up a date right then and there before we exchange contacts and if we both have time, we'll still keep talking afterwards.

If I have the time to go on an instant date, I usually already have a plan with her and have her contact either before we do the instant date or at the beginning of the instant date, and then we can continue talking and flirting for another hour or two.

The way I translated that to dating apps was I make plans with girls before we move off the app to texting, and then I immediately continue the conversation via text to just flirt some more.

So it's make plans on the app, get her contact details, then continue a topic or bring up a new topic on texting immediately.

I usually don't end up calling with any girl until we've already been sleeping with each other a few times.

In my experience (M) I usually chat a bit on the app, if its going good exchange numbers, text for a little and if they are interested in meeting up suggest a phone call to further talk and make sure everyone’s comfortable. Then proceed to set up a date, somewhere public. The whole goal is making sure she feels safe and knows I’m not a threat. What she does from that point is her choice.

In my experience anyone under 30 does not like to call at all. Texting it is. Heck, I don’t even call my gf of 2 years, only under exceptional circumstances. It gives Gen Z anxiety apparently

Text first I'd say. online dating has a pretty low bar for investment so if you're calling off the bat it probably signals over investment on your part and suspicion on hers. Once you've built a bit of rapport it may be a good option but even then unnecessary. Saving all that for the actual date(s) has always worked well for me. I don't spend weeks or even days texting back and forth. Set something up to meet asap.
