No, approaching a girl here and there by itself is neutral thing to do.

What could ruin your reputation, would be your social un-calibration, massively hitting on literally every girl in the workplace, gym or school instead of being selective, and refusing to take no for an answer.

And basically, when you treat cold-approaching like a sport or hobby, rather than as a sporadic thing you do here and there with women who are actually worth meeting because they just blow your mind how attractive they are.

Yes, it will affect your reputation if you do it in places where the same people go repeatedly. And some of those people recognize you as the "guy who hits on all the women".

But if you do it in a place that's always having new people come and go - like a big mall or busy shopping street- then typically no.

It also depends on how much you're doing it. The more people you hit on in a given location - the more likely it is to affect your reputation. If you just hit on one or two women, that's fine. If you're standing on the same street corner hitting on 300 women a day - people will begin to recognize you as "that guy".

You have to have a reputation in order for it to be ruined.

If you don't have an internet presence or don't live in a small town, you are fine.

Just don't approach at places that you have to return to such as the gym or your job.

It really depends on how much of a pest you are.

If you're respectful and chill, and aren't giving the ick or inducing discomfort, I doubt anyone will raise the alarm.

I've seen a Starbucks regular get trespassed because he would talk to every attractive woman who came in. I expect that most gyms are the same.

No one will care but you. I live in a high cost of living area in LA, formerly Santa Monica and now Marina del Rey. I'm confident that no one else is thinking about my "reputation" based on dating. They have their own thing going. The same applies to practically everyone else. If you're a celebrity who is followed by paparazzi, then sure, tabloids will gossip about your dating life. But anyone else, not going to happen on any real noticeable level.
