The content you consume, and espcially the content that upsets you if you engage with it at all, is the content you are going to be pushed though TikTok's algorithm. It's all about maximizing your personal consumption of said content. As a result, you aren't citing 'TikTok's Relationship Standards', you're citing the relationship standards TikTok presents to you because that's what you engauge with.

With that said, it should be noted that there are two huge biases here outside of your own: 1) People with narcissist behaviors are more likely to become engaged in content creation, biasing content overall to narcissist and socially inept opinions. 2) People who make relationship content, overall, bias towards people who are obsessed with relationship content and/or see romance as a primary driver of worth, which generally translates to people who have a shallow and unrealistic outlook on relationships in general. It's a bit of an oraboras effect.

Anyway, to answer your question:

I agree with you that the standards you listed in your post are stupid, shallow standards. But I am also of the opinion that they are the standards of stupid, shallow and largely irrelevant people. While I have met people with those standards in real life, they are maybe a handful out of the hundreds of people I know, and probably not a majority opinion even on the platform you are talking about.

Admittedly, I don't have a TikTok personally, and only know what I know about the platform from watching over my partner's shoulder. And he has horrifically wholesome tastes, so it is entirely possible that my veiw is biased by what the algorithm feeds him specifically.

Still, the average user is like 22 according to the 2022 and 2025 datasets I've seen. And 22 year olds believe a lot of stupid shit. Most of them still haven't had a chance to be real people yet, and those that have usually have only been real people for four years maximum. That's less than 9% of adulthood if you exclude seniors. I'm not saying that they're stupid or always wrong, but they are prone to the follies of inexperience, particularly in romance.

With that in mind, I do think those standards should be respected in that... Well, what does 'disrespecting' them look like? You can disagree with something without being disrespectful, though I haven't done a great job of that here given that I've insulted the notion of these standards multiple times.

But yeah, if you know someone with these standards? There isn't any way to be "disrespectful" of these standards in a way that doesn't make you an asshole. If they're a friend, you can tell them they're being unrealistic, but that's not disrespectful. If they're a partner? Well, honestly, you probably want to cut your losses and run, because if this stuff comes up regularly you are probably being either used (if you fit these standards) or abused (if you don't fit these standards and your partner is trying to force you to). Other then that? None of your damn business, move along.

Also my apologies for all of this. I am sick right now and just woke up from a 10 hour nap and my brain is mush and I don't want to move so I'm ranting to online strangers instead.

Tiktok doesn't have relationship standards it's a computer program.
