To my understanding, on social media, hypergamy describes when women seek to marry wealthy/rich/powerful men, the top 5% of men if you will. Polygamy, specifically polygyny which is the practice of having multiple wives, is something that has generally speaking has been more accessible amongst men who can at least provide materially for all their wives. Meaning the husband would have to have a decent amount of resources for all his wives and children and himself of course. Maybe I’m simplifying a bit but the way I see it, the outcomes of these two things are that a relatively small percentage of the male demographic, the wealthy/powerful ones, are the ones who can and will have multiple wives (and consequently get to have more offspring). If the top men in society are the ones who will always have their pick of women due to their status, which is something I hear commonly from redpill accounts on social media, whats the difference between the outcomes of hypergamy and polygyny? Top men can pick from multiple women and multiple women want top men and are willing to share men. Arent these ideas somewhat congruent, just from a different gender perspective? I was curious to hear different opinions about what men, particularly “redpill” leaning men, think about this topic. This is something I’ve been pondering a while about and I wanted to try and understand different perspectives. Also if my framework is off please correct me I’m just going off what I see on these spaces on social media randomly.
