To my understanding, on social media, hypergamy describes when women seek to marry wealthy/rich/powerful men, the top 5% of men if you will.

I would define it a little more broadly than that. For example, if a woman of average physical attractiveness finds only 10-20% of men to by physically attractive, I would say that's an example of hypergamy.

But anyway, I agree that there is a sort of complimentarity between the female hypergamy instinct and the male polygyny instinct. Which kind of makes sense, given mankind's likely evolutionary environment.

I think it's worth keeping in mind that the whole point of monogamous marriage is to FRUSTRATE the instincts of both men and women. If mankind were instinctively a pair-bonding species, then there would be no need for the huge body of laws, customs, and enforcement mechanisms which surround modern marriage.

Anyway, in my view, the Red Pill is more of a descriptive philosophy than a normative one. In other words, the Red Pill more about helping men understand what they need to do to attract women than telling men whether they should be monogamous, polygamous, celibate, or whatever.

From this perspective, the male polygyny instinct is an interesting fact, but it's not very important and should not distract from female hypergamy -- which is very important for men to understand. Especially since women are constantly given the message that their instincts are valid and good. (Note that men are NOT given this kind of message.)

This answer is kind of complicated, but the short answer is that theoretically what you think is true, but also is not reflected in real life because people do not operate just on male/female nature.

In the red pill, like the OG red pill, female hypergamy refers to her sexual attraction to the most (sexually) dominant man, and that she will constantly be on the lookout for this man even if she is currently with someone else. The idea here is that women find one man attractive at a time, the most “alpha” (holistic, not just physical) man out of all her options/in her area.

It’s not really about just having resources—there a bunch of neurotic ugly men working in tech who make $400-600k and could afford 2 wives, yet still end up womanless. Money is a small part of it, sure, but at the end of the day, a man with money doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll have offspring. A guy with money can be the safety, and a woman can make him a step-father or paternity fraud him with a more attractive man who happens to not have resources, hence the phenomenon “alpha fucks/beta bucks.”

Polygyny in men is their natural predilection to find many women attractive at once, and that they do not need a woman to be “the best” in order to be exclusively attracted to her. In fact the red pill male nature is that men are not built for exclusive attraction at all, and that they crave sexual variety (of young women, trading out older aging women of their harem), but they engage in exclusive commitment because it’s a mating strategy for his family’s/offspring’s survival.

Of course, people are not programmed just by their biology, so even if you believe red pill male/female nature to be true, in the real word people’s views around dating are also influenced by their family, culture, social class, education level, religion, morality structure, and just their personal tastes. So belief in and want for monogamy, instinctual jealousy, valuation of long-term partnership, and love are the opposing forces to hypergamy and polygyny.

You can already see it already happening but on the down low.

Attractive men have casual access to many women (for free), having children with them, then women go on to get a more beta provider to help raise them.

With polygyny, at least women could share the attractive guy in the open instead of sharing him via being on his roster.

I’d argue an extremely sexually attractive man that triggers primal arousal (aka Chad) has a better shot at polygyny than a beta guy who just has money.

In the future, once it’s more acceptable socially there will be more polygynous homes with one attractive man and multiple women living together. Where everyone in the home works at least somewhat. Ideally in that scenario the man would still make the most but it doesn’t have to be the case.

Especially in this economy, having families this way will be better for everyone involved. No sending kids to daycare while mom and dad both work to get by. The women get help raising their children, support of a larger family, and get an alpha’s genes for her children while also having him stick around to father. This would require an extremely socially and spiritually confident man who can also very well satisfy all women sexually, along with women who are not drama queens.

Women chose to live like then when giving the choice before patriarchy took over. Many women would share the same alpha rather than having a beta all to herself when living in our primal state of nature. Even now they’re choosing to live like this except they are simply a part of an alphas rotation with no benefits (besides good sex) or a future family with him.

For rich betas, those women who want that are typically going to demand as much security (money) as possible and will be less likely to want to share.

If it’s a rich chad/alpha, then it makes the other scenario even easier for him to obtain.

I mean they are both different things, however the result of hypergamy is leading to polygamy on men. 1 men having 20 girlfriends because he leveled himself up a lot. Its upto him to be monogamous but when you achieve the top 10% men you can never be monogamous, there is too many good options. At the same time tho, women are sharing the top % men as well if she has the looks and the right mindset. So the end result of hypergamy is, men having multiple gfs and women sharing the top % of men. If you ask me if this is a good system to live in, its absolutely not but we didnt create the world so, might as well just become the best version of yourself and adapt to hypergamy.

Polygyny is the nature to men, equivalent to hypergamy for women. It is similar but not the same as polygamy, or having multiple wives or polygyny in the colloquial sense.

To put it in blunt words, Polygyny in TRP is the impulse men have towards having sexual access to multiple women.

It is differentiated from hypergamy because men are not after the best of the best, they tend to accept anyone who is a certain level of attractiveness or above. They want more women, not better women. Quantity over quality.

That is why so many men end up cheating with women who are unquestionably uglier than their wives.

It doesn't show itself that much in modern society. Even amongst those who can do that. These men realize that despite being unquestionably happier, if they let their impulses control their every behavior, it would cause issues down the line.

Much of TRP criticism of women is not that women have a nature, but that they have nothing else besides their nature. Working 100% on instinct tends to backfire. Women have a brain, but refuse to use it. Preferring to go on gut instinct, without realizing it is basically going through life based literally on their genital's reactions.

Yes, humans are made to be like that, but we chose rationally to enforce monogamy in order to not waste resources. Much money, time, and energy is spent in getting more partners/better partners, instead of focusing in your family or yourself. Some theorize that only one in 17 men reproducing 17000 years ago was because this compromise was not reached yet.

If both were entirely impulsive? not much would change, women would be slaves to rich and wealthy, while sex slaves to the handsome. No need to hide behind lies anymore I guess.

But men control themselves, and women don't. Leading to the number of single moms, horrible relationships and down right unlivable family situations we have today.

There needs to be organization if a family is to work. but men lost control over women and they chose to have zero self control. No wonder why families, countries, organizations, etc are falling apart every time a woman is involved.

In black pill circles they say "Men gave women the right of self determination and they proved why they never were given any power in history".
