People think they just need better pics looking handsome. But lets face it: Most of us don't have the face or body card to compete on looks in a place like Instagram.

What I've instead had success with, is competing on niche.

I'm a photographer - and I get beautiful female photographers and models in my city following my account every month. That's right. The women follow me first. I also have models DM-ing me regularly, asking about getting free photoshoots.

I've gotten a few dates from Instagram this way.

So have a niche, something some women also have as the same niche. Here are some niches you could delve into that many women also get into:

  • Fashion
  • Photography
  • Travel & adventure
  • A specific sport
  • A specific hobby (like painting / drawing / art)
  • Food tasting
  • Humor / stand-up / sketches

Make your profile completely focused on this. Begin following other accounts that are in your niche, and like or comment thoughtful or funny things on their posts.

I promise you that it won't take that long until you will begin seeing some women following your profile that are also in your niche. And that is a perfect starting point to DM her. This is MUCH more likely to get a response and a chat and from there you can ask her out.

Don't just randomly DM everyone. Be targeted. Build relationships over time.
