Start “securing” them. Joint or not, the lawyer will find out. Ex’s put liens on ALL my rentals/businesses.

If you are married without a prenup it doesn’t matter whose name is on the account, it doesn’t matter whose name is on the deed, the title, or the debt. If it was incurred or earned during the marriage it is considered a marital asset. That said, she cannot just access it and take money, but the court can order you to give her money, and potentially throw you in jail if you do not comply. They can garnish your wages (even if you are cooperating!) and put leans on property or garnish tax refunds. Oh they can also revoke your passport.

Talk to a local attorney. As a general rule. It doesn't matter what account your general income is in. If you've been earning it during the marriage. Think of it this way if a company has been paying you only in cash, and you put the cash at your friend's house. That money is still half hers.

If you have cash that you earned prior to the marriage, that was in a mayonnaise jar left at your friend's house that you never touched, never mixed with income earned during the marriage. Then that's your own personal money if you get divorced.

If at any time any of these assets are mixed they become communal.
