One of many things that Feminists and MRAs both have in common and another reason why I refuse to associate myself with reddit's MRA's is the idea that "shaming" is an evil social construct that is designed to put people down. Feminists are obsessed with slut shaming and fat shaming among other things while MRAs fight against creep shaming and virgin shaming. In their minds, it's totally okay for for them to be fat, slutty, virgins, and creeps, and they'll fight for their right to do so without ridicule.

Well I like to take shaming (from certain people) as a form of motivation. If you're being shamed by people whose opinions you do not value (like when feminists call us rapists) then there's not much motivation to be gained or shits to be given. But if somebody you know and care about "shames" you, there's a good chance you'll take it more seriously. I'll use myself as an example. If it weren't for a few of my fraternity brothers calling me out for being small and fat, I'd still be 180 lbs at 5'3 with barely any muscle. If some random bitch at a party told me I was small and fat, I wouldn't really give a shit, but since it was from people whose opinions I cared about, I felt ashamed of the way I looked and got to work. Instead of crying about how I should be accepted for who I am and how I look, I went to the gym, started dieting, and lost 40 lbs so far and soon I'll have a nice ripped six-pack. (Who knew not eating bacon cheeseburgers every day would help you lose weight?)

There is some shaming that is unproductive. Shaming a person based on things that people can't change or have no power over is idiotic, whether it's race, gender, height, or anything. Nobody should apologize for being alive. Nobody here would ever apologize for being a man or woman, black or white, or whatever the fuck you are. But the things that you do have power over, like weight, personality, social skills, body language, how you dress, fitness, nutrition, sexual habits, etc. you're damn right you should be shamed for it if you're lacking. That's called motivation. You strive to better yourself. You are not a feminist or MRA mangina who decided the world should conform to you. You live in the real world where you either shape up or ship out. The world doesn't care about your feelings and certainly doesn't cater to your desire to sit on your ass while being treated like someone who's put in the effort to better themselves.

So shame away. Nobody's perfect, and that's a good thing.
