However, we should learn more details about this case before we jump to conclusions. Apparently there are some reports that he brutally beat this woman up, not just hit her back. Excessive response has ALWAYS been a crime. Again, we don't know the real full story. There's a good chance this guy is being set up to fall hard.

There was a story about a woman in a night club I read a while back. Some guy grabbed her ass. She punched him and broke his jaw. Guess who went to jail?

She did. That's right, she got fully charged. You bet the feminists were mad about that one. It was a small victory, but a bit of a parallel situation to this one.

I understand the injustice but just because you can defend yourself does not mean you can kill the other person.

You can't go all our and beat someone up and call self defence. You still need to give a reasonable amount of force but only to defend yourself.

When i was younger, i used to actually get picked on a lot by boys and girls alike. At some point i started fighting back against some of the boys, still losing, but still.

One day, i was on the swings (this was early eighties, mind you, outside was the best graphics) and this girl came up behind me and pushed me hard as hell off the swing, i ended up biting through my lip. I got up and hit her twice, hard (she'd been a regular tormentor). She ran crying home. I went to my own place and told my mom what had happened, petrified I'd get in trouble.

The girls mother came banging on the door, and my mom answered (I'm paraphrasing, obviously, this was some twenty five + years ago).

"Your son hit my daughter, she has a black eye!"

"My son has a busted lip, sounds like they're even."

"Teach your kids to respect women, you don't ever hit a woman."

"Well, the best way to not get hit is to not hit in the first place, maybe you should teach that. Man enough to hit, man enough to get hit back."

I love my mother.

This is why I'm not a misogynist or any other catch words women try to use when they run into somebody who actually demands equality between women and men. I know women can be awesome, i know a fair amount, so i have little tolerance for the bullshit "I'm woman, i can do whatever to you, you can't touch me."

I'm reminded of the scene in baby boy where the woman is being the hell out of tyrese, but when he deigns to grab her, the water works begin.

I'll play Devil's Advocate here.

I don't think that gender played a big role in this decision. Let's swap the gender of the 'initiator'. He remains the same size - let's say 150lb dude shoves, or pushes or even hits punches the 190lb dude. The 190lb athlete then punches and hospitalizes the 150lb dude.

The larger dude clearly used unnecessary force. Instigating a fight? That's a one month suspension.

Hospitalizing a fellow athlete that's (presumably) smaller? That's a loss of a scholarship. To me, this all seems fair.

Can someone bring up an actual article instead of two guys talking about sports?

I have a really big problem with this. I know a few females who would gladly punch the fuck out of a male, but if he responds with even so much as a slap, the first thing out of their mouths is 'violence against women'.

The whole 'Violence Against Women: Australia Says No!' thing really fucked us, IMO. Women took that as 'Australia has a no hitting women at all ever' policy, which is fucking stupid.

Sure, I don't want to see guys walking up to random girls and breaking their noses, but if a chick is trying to actually physically hurt me, I'm going to stop her from doing that, and I'm going to use force to do it.
