I think it’s always good to have a prenup. Most people think it’s a disadvantage for a women, but it doesn’t have to be. You can put anything in there you want to.

I don’t know if it works the same in every country, but it can also protect you from any debt your husband makes without your knowing or if his company goes bankrupt.

Just make sure you have your own financial advisor who takes your interests into account (as you should with lawyers as well, never share one).

I know this is awful for your mom and my heart goes out to her, but she can at least hold her head high in the knowledge that she didn't compromise her dignity, her boundaries or her self respect AND made sure he spent a ton of money on her and provided her with emotional support when needed. She isn't broke (sounds like she has her own career), she doesn't have to rebuild her identity from scratch after years of verbal putdowns and psychological abuse and she didn't waste her life being a domestic slave to some couch creature.

Ladies, take OP's mom as an example of how to behave in relationships. Life is unpredictable and men can turn on a dime, but treat yourself well and put yourself first and you can at least minimize the damage that any man can inflict on you.

Personally I don't think it's realistic that a LVM "hides" behind a HVM facade for 20 years. Instead I would be looking at what changed. Apparently-sane people get suckered into cults or drugs all the time, if you want non-dating examples of people losing value. It is possible and can happen.

As for prenups: do your own research. It's not as powerful a tool as you'd think.

Correct me if I am wrong but my idea of HVM is not someone wanting to stay with one woman all his life. I mean two High Value people can still get a divorce. What do you girls think?
