I've admitting in my previous post that I'm dealing with a wife who's on the gray edges of BPD. I have pretty good Captain skills in many areas of my life, but it doesn't make as much difference in my marriage. The more I look at what modern marriage has become, the more I'm getting annoyed with it.

Years ago I heard that business books written by sports figures seem good but are actually filled with horrible advice, because sports analogies don't translate as well into real world business situations. Likewise I think the Captain analogy used here is flawed because in the real Military there's an entire support structure telling everyone below the Captain to obey orders. Granted, in order to make it to Captain rank you have to know your stuff, but the support structure is still there for you. That doesn't exist in real world marriage today. It used to exist with help from the Church, but the Church has greatly faded. Instead we have a social structure which is constantly telling us that Man and Woman are to be EQUALS in a marriage. The media also reinforces it.

The problem is that I can do almost EVERYTHING better and more efficiently than my wife, and just about any other woman I know. (Go look at the recent discussions in TRP subreddit on "Survivor") I can also think clearly and make decisions without internal hormones misdirecting me. And yet I must yield to this other person whom society is coming at me from all angles telling me that we must be "equal" ??

I'm a big fan of Nicola Tesla. Can anyone here picture him getting his work done to the levels he accomplished if he had been married? He was incredibly insightful by an order of magnitude, and he probably had this all figured out.
