I (f24) have been dating (m24) for over two years, currently a LDR for a 9 month period (closing the gap in the summer (yay!)). We haven’t really argued and I don’t usually get upset at him so I’m not sure what to do/ how to react right now.
So I’m visiting him, we attend his annual sports club formal dinner. He’s the club captain, gives some excellent speeches that have the crowd in stiches, I’m very proud to be sat by his side.
Whilst he’s chatting to his coaches and friends I use the opportunity to meet his team mates and their girlfriends/wives and meet some really lovely people and have some very interesting conversations.
The issue is I don’t feel as if I’m his girlfriend- he ignores me for most of the evening, leaves without me, doesn’t look in my direction at all, doesn’t introduce me to anyone. When I walk from the predrinks to the meal I’m walking behind him as he chats to his friend. When we arrive he speeds off to through the crowd to the other side of the room. I playfully tease him and say he’s not allowed to abandon me like that. He spends the afterparty chatting to a his 22f coach whom he admits he thinks has a crush on him. I chat to her too, she’s really nice and we get on well.
Nearly at the end if the evening I get so upset watching him talk to her that I decide to leave. I don’t want everyone seeing how upset I am so I keep smiling and tell him I’m heading upstairs to bed. I bump into one of his close friends on my way out and he asks me if I’m ok and I just burst into tears. He gives me a hug, I don’t say anything and keep walking.
He comes up shortly after and sees how upset I am. Apologises immediately and lists all the things he’s done wrong and how sorry he is that he’s done them. It sort of shocked me how he knew all the little things he’d done but hadn’t done anything to fix them as they arose. I cried a lot, admitted that I was crying a lot probably due to alcohol. I told him that I had a nice time chatting to everyone but felt as if I was pretending to be his girlfriend the entire night. I told him that it was easier for him to upset me because I love him so much.
Now I’m not sure what to do tomorrow morning- he’s sleeping and I can’t sleep. I want to hold him tight but I also am annoyed and don’t want to be near him.
How do you react when he does something to upset you? How can I avoid this happening in future events?
