This is an interesting idea, but what about orgasm during rape?

So, in an attempt to understand arousal in the context of unwanted sex, Chivers, like a handful of other sexologists, has arrived at an evolutionary hypothesis that stresses the difference between reflexive sexual readiness and desire.

So, movies of aroused women and gave increased arousal in the subjects, but naked (good looking) non-aroused men didn't. The idea the researcher presented was that it's the body's response to get ready for sex, regardless of desire.

It's wild that an un-PC discussion like this could even take place in academia and NYT! Probably because the lead PI is a woman. One of the manosphere blogs (forget which one) predicted that TRP ideas would go mainstream in 2013 - 2014, and it looks like we're seeing more of it everyday.

This would also seem to explain "sincere" regret rape allegations. In her mind she is convinced she would never had sex with that guy, or in that way, or at that time, because on a conscious level she wasn't aware of how her body desired him in a primal way.

Surprised that no one mentioned how female desire was shown to be activated by male desire. The more we want to fuck them, the more they are aroused, which is at the heart of all the rape fantasies. Just a small point, When people say mind says one thing body says another, this is wrong.

The conscious mind says one thing, the unconscious mind does another. Genital arousal is controlled by the mind, just not the conscious mind (as every adolescent male knows!)

Men cannot control what they find arousing, but at least they are aware of it. With women, there is a disconnect in their brains such that they are often unaware what is going on in their 'lower' mind and body.

A typical case is a woman who says she does not find a guy attractive, and then has sex with him. Because the woman was not aware she did actually find him attractive at a primal level, she then has to rationalize why she had sex with him. Typical rationalizations include "I am the only one who really understands him", "He just needs the love of a Good Woman", or "He flirted with me and bought me drinks and so it was date-rape". In summary, the rationalization hamster.
