There is no such thing as "purpose" in nature. There is a reason/cause, but not a goal/purpose. Your genes, evolution, nature... are not sentient and don't "care" if you reproduce or not, evolution is simply what happens when people do.

Man is part of nature and our more advanced brains, who let us question this way of life, are the result of natural processes.

Yes, reproduction is the goal of every species, but when a species develops consciousness and deliberately decides against it, it is just as natural.

However, I also believe that we are not here on this planet to be happy, but that does not mean that we should not strive for happiness.

The pursuit of happiness and the hope to improve one's own circumstances are what motivates humans. Our overwhelming desire for happiness and improvement is why we are at the top of the food chain.

Let me give some REAL ADVICE^tm

Your future, your relationship, your end point is exactly what you make of it. Your choices, your actions and such all add up to that destiny.

I could have easily slipped into that middle aged fat, just living to eat and be force fed entertainment mentality. My wife and I made a choice not to, and that doesn't even include our swinging but just how we lived our lives. You don't have to go my route to not be fat and miserable at middle aged. You just have to decide and work not to be.

I'm still living the best years of my life and I'm getting damn close to 50. Physically, sexually, and economically, (not spiritually but hey if thats your thing I'm sure you could).

It doesn't even take much effort it just takes some effort. Many people get to a point and decide they are done in life, done learning, done exploring, done improving, and they stagnate.

If you are married and they are not willing to follow, you do your thing, get to your peak and then bid farewell, though I wouldn't allow it to get to that point myself, its easier to get someone slowing down to speed up than someone stopped to start moving.

But fucking live. My kids are great, my wife is great, we figure out solutions to our problems when they arise. My life isn't a special unicorn, you just have to decide you want it and put the effort in.

I am 48 and started dating my partner at 42. My kid was already an adult by then. We aren’t having any more kids. I also already had a pretty full life so I didn’t need a relationship for fulfillment. I enjoy the companionship, the affection, and the sex, and it doesn’t hurt to have someone help with the chores and the bills. But if he were raptured tomorrow, while I would miss him terribly, I would not be anxious for another relationship to complete my life.
