Because they identify themselves as potential object of admiration.

When another guy wants to have sex with you, its a threat, not a compliment.

This is definitely not true. I do think a lot of the disgust straight men display towards homosexuality is empty bravado. But all the same, straight women report more gay experimentation than straight men do.

But why does disgust turn into hate with so many straight guys?

So this is just a theory. Alot of people think on the offset that if you find men who like men kind of gross you are homophobic. In truth I feel the act of being gay isn't truly the problem but rather the idea of men are just gross in general. The idea of men is that they are one not beautiful to the degree of women and therefore not as clean and well kept as women. In truth gay men keep themselves cleaner then some women do. It's just a reaction of how well men in general are less sanitary. Which is a misconception.

Men and women both find male homosexuality *disgusting*.

Male homosexuality does not directly involve women so of course they don't mind being friends with gay men themselves. But watch how women react if their husbands were to become close friends with a gay man, or if their husband suddenly says he's open to experimenting.

To a straight man the thought of *having* gay sex is disgusting.

To a straight woman the thought of her *husband* having gay sex is disgusting.

Women are better socialized than men and have less of an ego to feed in terms of their sexuality. Homosexuality has historically been linked to not being masculine... when men deal with another man that confronts their weak sexuality this often leads to hatred.

Youre right OP. Men these days are way too fucking scared of gays, almost like they are afraid it will make them gay, or maybe theyre closeted homos themselves so gay stuff really threatens them. Its a bizarre western white male “bro” thing I think, other cultures are more laid back.

I remember back in my fraternity days, there was this one dude who tried to tell me it was gay for two brothers to jerk each other off while watching STRAIGHT porn.
