I tend to believe that people have certain deep, subconscious fears and desires, and their ideological beliefs are connected with these fears and desires in ways that they don’t consciously understand. For instance, men’s desires to control women (through religion or RP) is connected with their unspoken fear of cuckolding. I assume some RP folks would agree with that; RP is one of the few groups that explicitly acknowledges this fear.

What about nuclear war? There are few things as scary in the modern world as that. Here are some articles linking concerns about toxic masculinity to concerns about warfare:

“When Mr. Trump tweeted, “I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!” the nuclear saber-rattling at Kim Jong-un of North Korea sounded a lot like, well, penis-measuring.”

“Ideas about masculinity and femininity matter in international politics, in national security and in nuclear strategic thinking.”

“President Trump’s “my button is bigger than yours” Twitter feud with Kim Jong Un raises concerns about the potentially disastrous effects of masculine impulse. Masculine impulses such as sexual domination could lead countries to take overly aggressive or confrontational stances, and the thirst for power could lead a country to build up a lot more arms than necessary. “

Is it a coincidence that RP became especially popular only after the Cold War ended in 1991 (about 20 years later, when kids were maturing who had not experienced the Cold War)? What about the fact that hippies with long hair (men rejecting conventional masculinity) were the first kids who had not experienced the world before nuclear weapons?

Is it a coincidence that concerns about MeToo surfaced, and TRP has been quarantined, at the same time democrats are trying to restrict Trump’s ability to fire a nuclear first strike?
