In my experience, men who have (and have always had) normal sex lives almost never care about how “Chad” has banged a hundred women. It’s generally only men who have developed deep insecurities about sex as a result of not getting it that are like this. They may not be virgins now, but at some point in their past they put sex on a huge pedestal and haven’t taken it off yet.

(Note: a “normal” sex life doesn’t mean being a player. Just being a statistically average person who loses their virginity in their teens and has a few girlfriends at normal ages would suffice).

To a lesser degree, I think wanting to become a “player” is also often driven by these factors. It seems to me that late bloomers are highly over-represented among the PUAers and TRPers who are obsessed with “boosting their notch count”. To be sure, sex drive absolutely plays a role, but I think many of these guys are underestimating how much their insecurity and desire for validation is playing a role, too.

(Regarding the analogy in the title: I am not saying being a player is equivalent to being a glutton. I am saying that people who have known sex “starvation” are more likely to think sex is a huge deal, and therefore think that getting a lot of sex must be the best thing ever).
