The author is being intentionally obtuse. Maybe she's pretending to be offended by it because she needs more pageviews. Pregnant women should definitely not drink. And no woman (nor man) should abuse alcohol. It's that simple.

If anyone needs to be told not to drink too much all the time they deserve condescension, as does whoever wrote the article, it's not alcohol makes you pregnant, although I'm sure it's helped conceive many a kid, it's don't drink when you got a bun in the oven because it will Fuck up your child

Oh yeah, it's awful and condescending to suggest that women who drink and engage in casual dating or casual sex (AKA most people in their 20's) to use BC to avoid unwanted pregnancy and birth defects..

The author is clearly feigning confusion here - and thankfully most people got the gist of the information - however the CDC has long since had a weird bug up its ass regarding alcohol that I never fully understood. A few years ago I remember reading about how apparently a college kid having a couple cocktails a weekend was "binge drinking" and on the path toward alcoholism.

Meanwhile most people in college make it out without becoming alcoholics and many of them drink waayyy more than a few drinks a few nights a week.

The CDC infographic was poorly worded. Saying STDs or pregnancy is a result of drinking is incredibly poorly worded and pretty weird. It would be better to say alcohol lowers your inhibition which might lead you to not make your partner use condoms or engage in more risky sexual behaviors.

From what I can read the author like almost anyone else has no issue with CDC telling women not to drink when they are pregnant or want to get pregnant but takes issue with how they worded their advice for the non pregnant women which anyone can see was poorly worded probably not on purpose and probably not for any sexist reasons though.
