Women have the tendency to display a friendly demeanor towards other people if it's feasible to do so, which includes those they actually can't stand. Men are bad at playing the same game, so it's more likely to be notable if something is off in such a pairing; while two women can have a clandestine catfight going on without a third party even noticing it. This may fuel the impression that women's displays of sympathy are insincere and phoney in general.

Men on the other hand may bond even after having a history of animosity if they somehow came to the conclusion that they're in the same boat.

Everyone has seen it. Girls form cliques, they tussle within the cliques amongst themselves and the cliques form "outsider" defences against others by hating on other cliques.

The female-female dynamic of humans is brutal female competition with one another. It's different from male competition.

But jesus christ, girls hate on other girls all the time... and boys, who are just generally open to fucking all the girls, look on this askance.

Why don't you girls just get along ? They think. It'd make fucking you easier for a start.

Do they ? Do they fuck... In groups, Out groups. Drama in the In group, a bit of humorous venom against the out group. Ta Da. Women hating on each other.

There's a lot going on here. Take a look at what happens when two guys show up at a party wearing the same thing vs two women doing the same. The men will look at each other and say something like "Hey you've got great taste in clothes" while the women will secretly judge who looks better in it.

Little things like that and tons of others have created this stereotype. Women rip each other apart all the time. They also aren't taught to have honor like men are or how to be a worthy opponent or fight with honor or any of that crap.

I really have no idea. But if you've seen men grouped together fucking with another dude they don't like, it's fucking brutal. Just about a month ago I was in a nightclub where tear gas needed to be dropped due to a couple of dudes that got into a fight that escalated to broken glass and blood everywhere.

Same thing when those twilight movies were popular and young males were starting campaigns against sexy vampires and werewolves and complaining about how gay Edward was. You're just as bad, but you don't get called out for it. Instead it's the girls' fault for liking Bieber and hot vampires, not the guys fault for hating on males the girls like.

Short answer: I think it's based on a grain of truth.

Slight off topic: I notice that men's disagreements tend to escalate to violence a lot quicker than women's, I don't imagine that there's much of an incentive to actually shit on other dudes, unless you're the kind of person who likes cleaning someone's blood off your clothes. So as a result, as a guy you tend to learn quick not to be a passive aggressive little bitch.

Because if you're going to call someone a bitch, you better mean it.

What's that saying the conservatives are fond of throwing around? Armed society might just be polite society.

As much as women tend to be catty with one another, I don't think that men are automatically "bros." Men just don't waste energy on men who aren't their "bros."

Women seem to be just as interested in women who piss them off as they are in women who don't (that's why "frenemies" is almost always used to describe women, and rarely used to describe men - men rarely have "frenemies", IME).

As to why? Women are more social creatures, IME, and, as such, are far more interested in and attuned to the social dynamics at play in a situation. Guys tend to lose interest in navigating and dealing with "social dynamics" much faster, IME...

Women fight indirectly. And when something is done indirectly, people think like "guilty until proven innocent". When directly people think like "innocent until proven guilty".

Imagine you are a medieval noble. If someone wants to duel you, that is clear and loud, and thus you know that most people don't want to. But poisoning... anyone could try to poison you. Everyone is suspect.

Women can be very snippy with people in general because they love talking and don't always filter what comes out of their mouths. If a woman is snippy with a man, most likely he'll just ignore it and it doesn't blow up. If a woman is snippy with another woman, however, chances are the other woman will retaliate by being snippy back creating massive drama over something stupid and then they'll keep badmouthing each other afterward. I've seen it happen countless times.

Men are usually more conscious of the words that come out of their mouths and don't needlessly make offhand comments, which creates the impression that they get along better or that they're "bros", which isn't always true. The ability to be civil with another person is not a sign that you're friends with that person.

It's fucking retarded how so many people use the world hate for things they don't understand. (Understand, this is really directed at the BP crew and not you.)

Men are openly competitive and it resolves into social order fairly quickly, much like how a football ranking chart would look over time. There are those on top. There are those on bottom. The chart changes, but it could take years for an upstart to climb the charts or for a champion to completely fall.

Women are fiercely competitive behind the scenes. They constantly struggle and and overturn each other in an instant. I actually think this is partly why so many of them are balls or tormented anxiety. Back when men completely ran things, they could chill out from time to time, using the warm glow of their male keeper for safety. Now they have NO WHERE to be safe.

Good think we make benzos and SSRIs by the megaton these days, right?

Women are probably more competitive than men when it comes to securing a future mate. The shit I've seen made my stomach sick. Calling their 'besties' sluts, disclosing their abortion history to damn near strangers. It's fucked.
