In the short tun, I think it might reduce the stigma on female promiscuity. As far as I can tell, there is no meaningful different in average number of partners between men and women, it's just that women feel they need to lie about to reduce the number, and men feel they need to lie to increase the number.

I don't see why you would propose a gendered test though, that's just weird. In the long run, it would result in more policing of women's sexuality and greater sex-shaming for women. It would exacerbate the inequality in standards for male and female sexual activity. And it would be an outrageous invasion of privacy, which is why it could never be legal.

Interesting thought. I don't think that kind of paranoia is healthy in a relationship, but I'd probably end up using it. As /u/pandorarosie said, I don't want a man slut of a husband. It'd also be useful to check for cheating. Again, not healthy in a relationship but people would use them. In my experience most promiscuous women are fairly open about it. It might cut down on sexual exploration but overall I don't think anything too dramatic would happen. Probably more focus on infidelity than actual partner count.

Great question. Imo relationships might just not form all that often in current western society as women are hell bent on getting alphas but would be way less down for casual sex if there was no chance of hiding their partner count. I dont think the average 30 year old beta with 3 lays under his belt would be down to wife 15 count 28 year old women when they know with certainty what that count is. I suspect the result would just look like Japan, with not a lot of coupling or sex of any kind.

Your whole hypothetical assumes that women having sex is a bad thing and that women are not honest in relationships so that this kind of test is necessary, and ~a big deal~ It further assumes that having sex with a man permanently alters a woman's physiology as if she is damaged. The people replying who say that the effect would be "not a whole lot" are right because this untethered kind of thinking is really limited to you and other people who have similarly misanthropic notions about relationships.

If you were hoping to hear that all women will stay indoors and only have sex on their wedding night to RPers who have manslooted as much as possible beforehand, then you might want to create a fanfic sub. Most men are not paranoid about the number of men their SOs have slept with. It is totally alright to have a preference for monagamy in your own partner. It is another thing to police people who have nothing to do with you.

There'd be an immediate drop in marriages, and probably a ton of divorces. Maybe some awkward games of truth or dare.

But after that? I think society would face a whole new set of challenges and social rules. You'd have one set of the population keeping themselves in check in hopes of landing a good partner. Another set that just enjoy fucking like crazy with a virtually non existent marriage rate, and a set after that mixed set of people who are undecided or just don't give a shit.

Because when it comes down to it, you're basically just devising a test to show who is interested in the sanctity of a relationship, and a mostly proven mathematical red flag of people you shouldn't marry. I personally think it would be better if members of each group found each other. It's so much easier to live in co-existence when everyone knows what they want, and what everyone else wants.

My first thought when reading this was "it wouldn't change much, because the possibility to ascertain paternity hasn't stopped women from cuckolding their partners either - all they need is to gaslight them into believing her and most guys would abstain from testing". On second notice, it came to mind that these are established partnerships with a history and the guy probably has wife goggles and therefore is easier to take for a fool.

However, this dynamic doesn't necessarily apply to newly-formed relationships, especially since the assumption "is it mine?" is a lot more outlandish than the one this thing would test for ("did she have many guys before me?"). And if a guy is prone to dwelling on a question like that, he'll probably use that test at one point or another, when he starts worrying about it for whatever reason.

So yeah, it would have at least some impact, and considering that (regardless of the "the past is the past"-mantra that's so popular on reddit) a lot of guys are probably dwelling on that question alot more than they're letting on, I dare to say that it will snuff out many relationships that might otherwise have endured for quite some time, though the breakup isn't necessarily justified with the "I break up with you because you're a slut"-reasoning. How many is another question, though, because each individual constellation depends on having a guy who would worry about that on the one hand and a woman who wouldn't meet his standards on the other. If TRP was right and this constellation was really common, the decline in relationships (and, as a consequence, marriages and families) would kick in without much delay. If TRP was wrong and that constellation is more an outlier than the norm, it would contribute to the general decline in marriages, but not to such a degree that people would be more alarmed about that decline than they already are.

Whether it would lead to a change regarding promiscuity hinges on that development. It would most likely lead to formerly (?) promiscuous women having a harder time forming lasting relationships, because the more stable guys would probably opt out of that segment of the marriage market, but whether these women would attribute that to the newly introduced test would depend on how much coverage that test gets. If it was the TRP-confirming mass exodus out of relationships, it would get a lot of coverage and the long-term consequences would probably be explored in greater detail, the male-shaming would be amped up ("men too insecure about female partner count to form lasting relationships"), but the other side of the coin could hardly be concealed, since that development would mainly affect women with high partner counts, which in turn might lead to a reconsideration from women who are just starting on the CC. However, if it was just a fringe phenomenon, it wouldn't change much.

That said, this is only the impact the whole thing would have when ignoring what /u/thechemist158 has thrown in - the possibility to not only ascertain n-count, but also to infer from different sets of tests of whether someone is cheating or not, because I'd say that this would actually happen a lot more often than just checking whether someone has been virtuous or not. People who suspect their partner of serially cheating would check their n-count in regular intervals (it's easy and also easy to conceal), and once that number gets up, we'd have irrefutable proof of cheating. Of course, a side-effect of course would be that it would also reveal someone's n-count to begin with, which in turn would lead to all the stuff I've mentioned above in case the number is an unpleasant surprise for the checking partner.

...heck, now I wish a test like that existed out of curiosity alone.

It would most likely have very little effect. We have to remember that men are still the ones seeking out sex most. Therefore, I'd say only a small portion of men, ones who have identified they don't want sluts for LTR, would cut a girl whose number was high. Most guys would just be happy they are getting laid.

Umm, hopefully we've grown enough as a society to where this would have no effect because what people do in their personal lives is their own business. That would be my predication.

If a girlfriend or wive had sex with a million people, who cares, it's their life. It would only effect people in society who are incredibly insecure (I'm a tad insecure myself but this is a whole different level), controlling and abusive, because nobody is taking this test on their own.

What is 'slept with'? PiV? Oral? Handjobs? (Female/female?) Because if such a thing was invented and if men cared enough to use it with new relationships (which I doubt many would rather than take her word for it, plus let's say he did and found she was honest about it - but she found out? It's like a keylogger, once you've done it and been found out there's a good chance she won't forgive you) the limitations would be figured out pretty quickly and those who want to sleep around without future partners knowing will probably just start performing acts that aren't counted.

well hypothetically if I had such a thingy and I had a girlfriend and I wanted her to test herself to prove her partner count to me wouldn't that be more likely to just piss her off than get her to go along with it? or are we supposed to be like stealing some of her urine w/o her knowledge? and surely bpers atleast would say that is not ethical since everything is automatically sinister to them. other people may also have a problem with it.

in other words just because the possibility exists doesn't mean people wouldn't be offended that you don't want to take their word for it, so that's one issue. by using the device you are showing your lack of trust.

im sure such a new technology would have some kind of effect on society but all in all it does seem like female promiscuity is becoming more accepted in general, and people in general are becoming a little more tolerant and less concerned with peoples pasts, so probably this device would primarily be used only in certain circumstances, not widely used as a 'slut deterrent'. and if it did there would probably start to become definable standards about what partner count is too high but it still wouldn't change the dynamic that women view higher partner count in men as value, and they already sorta pretend that's not the case collectively so im not sure how they would try to balance things out in that case.
