At what point did you realize that you were beta?

You hear it in the dead of the night (after you've shut down your computer for the night and typed up your last alpha-as-shit response in TRP and you're in bed). You open the closet ... but no one's there ... Just the dirty socks you forgot to wash...

You wonder if while you were in TRP getting fistbumps because you said you negged or applied some dread game to some woman - men who don't care about labels and acronyms and catch phrases are running past you.

You start to get night terrors about men you labeled BB running past you.

You sit in your room and look out the window. Beyond a lit window in your neighbor's house across the street, you see your neighbor give his wife a cup of coffee. Stupid old supplicating old man, you think. You make up an acronym for him on the spot: SAOSMB (saggy old supplicating man balls).

You feel better now. You've acronymed him, which makes you vastly superior and alpha-as-shit.

What exact behaviours would you associate with being beta? In RP terms, is it solely a matter of different ways of supplicating women? Or are there certain aspects of interactions with men (comfort with leadership roles, etc) that would be necessary for classification? I only ask because there seems to be some contradictions across different manosphere blogs about what makes an 'alpha,' and whether it's a matter of sexual strategy or if 'masculine virtues' come into play as well.

If it is the former, then as a gay guy can I be automatically alpha since I don't supplicate women at all?

Plz?

Probably around the time where my body literally starter to orbit around this one girl. I turned into a spherical object and everything. I was this chick's moon, and chicks love moons. That was also my first and last acid trip.

... Plenty on BPers have 'alpha' qualities such as confidence. We just don't create an entire identity around these traits that are frankly normal to most people.

Being BP does not mean being a full-blown beta. I'd say BP men are quite balanced with what TRP sees as 'alpha' and 'beta' qualities.

I'll admit I'm more of a 'beta' by RP standards. However, I am confident in who I am and I know my strengths and weaknesses. I have always been that way and do not want to change that. I simply do not have a dominant personality.

Around 5..6 (?) years ago ?

I was overweight, all my friends were pretty much girls, no guy friends whatsoever, heavy into the whole "feminism, respect women rawr" thing. And then one day a new girl is introduced to my circle of friends and I'm smitten, so I ask my friend if she can introduce us and the exchange goes

"Oh, Kayla? You have no chance with her"

"Why's that?"

"She doesn't like guys like you, she likes the really tall and built ones and she likes to travel and you have no money"

"Well, her last boyfriend was a jerk so maybe she wouldn't mind dating a nice guy for a change"

"ok, you're not getting it, she thinks you're our gay friend"

I've changed since but that was probably the lowest point in my life I'd say, so overall, pretty good life, but that moment still haunts me

The fucking fourth grade (9 years old). I noticed at the lunch table, people would often jocky for seating positions adjacent to the most valuable 4th graders. I could literally see a hierarchy work itself out, and very quickly realized that no one was jockying to sit next to me, and further, that I always got one of the later picks in terms of seats.

I was pretty athletic in HS: 2x all conference in football, 2x all conference in lacrosse, and 1x all conference at 170 pounds as a senior in wrestling.

When I graduated, I went to University of South Carolina...I tried out, as a walk - on, for the football team my freshman year (summer before...I think it was second week of July). I was 5'11", 184 pounds. I got pushed around way too much as a blocking fullback, and pancake blocked multiple times playing as a linebacker. I was too stiff and slow to hang as a strong safety.

When the week was up, the strength and conditioning coach pulled me aside and said that if I could add 20 pounds, definitely come back next year, because he knew they would have a spot for me (ON THE SCOUT TEAM).

That was when I KNEW...I was a BETA INCEL.

When a girl told me that she sees me like a brother, that was when I knew. I thought to myself, shit, I completely fucked this up (not just in my interaction with that specific girl, but rather with the opposite sex in general). This was a couple years ago now, well before I ever heard of any of these pills. I was very surprised to see my thoughts at least partially validated on RP, as all my real-life friends and acquaintances told me I was so lucky to be such good friends with someone that I would be considered her "brother."

I'm totally beta. I'm so beta it huuuurts. My awesome job, great wife and overall success in life prove that I am beyond a doubt, so fucking beta.

But in all seriousness, I don't think "alpha" and "beta" labels really mean anything. I think they put a negative and positive connotation on behaviors that aren't necessarily good or bad.

For instance, admitting you're wrong at work and moving the ball forward could be called "beta" and shows weakness, but it's actually useful to getting things done, and big ego's cause so many problems, especially in business.

On the other hand, being super aggressive all the time is also inappropriate. I won't get very far without tact, so I should pick my battles wisely and not worry about being "alpha" in every circumstance. Sometimes pushing for dominance in a situation that doesn't need it is also harmful.

So yeah, I think the whole ideal is silly and a waste of time to worry about.

A guy I worked with in my second last startup used his experience leading that startup and the patents we registered to get himself at a comfy position at a major company. While he rewarded my loyalty by bringing me along, he said something that stuck to me. He called me a "kingmaker". It was clearly his way of calling me a beta.

If you're unfamiliar with the expression, "Always the kingmaker, never the king", it's essentially the male version of "Always the bridesmaid, never the bride."

That was the watershed moment.

Before that, I always had suspicions. A friend of my father told me how he respected my father, and that friends like my father only come once in a lifetime. He gave a long list of "greater beta" traits like loyalty, dependability/diligence, etc, but no alpha traits at all. And the main reason he was telling me this was because my father did so much work for this guy's own tech business.

I checked back to my grandfather and even great grandfather's history. Definitely beta.

It will be very difficult to break free from these chains of fate that bind me. Even for leisure, e.g. when I played games more often, I noticed that I have more fun analyzing/strategizing, finding a friend with more time and potential than me, tell him my ideas, and watch as he shot to the top of the ladders for whatever games it was. Maybe laziness. Maybe I just enjoy seeing how I could influence others, including natural alphas. I think "advisor" is my natural role, not leader. It makes me sad, sometimes.

I come from a long line of proud high betas. It is my biodestiny.

In my high school class there was a natural alpha. He got most of the female attention but went to study abroad after two years. At some point I was discussing who was hot and not in school with a girl in our class and she said "soylent, you're the most attractive guy in our class now, but alphaguy was... dreamy look special". I think that's when I realized being sexy wasn't a zero sum game where some people have a bigger slice of the pie but rather that there is a distinct difference between guys who are it and guys who are not it.

I realized I was beta when i started talking about alpha/beta on the internet. Every real life alpha ive known would be weirded out if someone started talking to him about this shit. A couple of reformed betas who more or less successfully imitate alpha would get it, but i have talked to both of them and they both agree they are truly beta, and that if they were really alpha they would not understand social dynamics in such terminology, as this is a compensatory mechanism for people without alpha instincts.
