Lefty feminism (collectivism) and right wing appropriation of feminism (you go girl, have it, all individualism, consumerism). The mens movement don't differentiate or seem to be able to tell the two apart. Should it or is it best to treat it as one entity?

Is this supposed to link to something? The sentence is also difficult to read.

If you're saying mainstream/western society says things about men comparable to what TRP says about women, I disagree because (frequently):

  • TRP thinks women are not, should not, or cannot be equal to men. In contrast, mainstream society is largely egalitarian. A result: I do not see mainstream society petitioning to remove men's voting rights as often as I see this from TRP.

  • TRP envisions that only narrow roles are appropriate for women (eg they must be submissive, relationships require Captains). In contrast, mainstream society is pushing towards gender liberation, which TRP often notes regretfully (men are supposedly being feminized).

  • TRP views women are morally inferior, probably due to evolution. I do not see mainstream culture argue that men as a class are incapable of moral agency or virtue.

  • I do not see mainstream sources calling for violence or excusing it as often as I see this on TRP.

I also do see mainstream sources criticized for their mistakes. When unacceptable things are said, they should be rebuked. Instead, if I read your headline properly you seem to prefer the opposite extreme: invite more unacceptable things because you think some already sneak by.

Why not point us to the offending Guardian content and ask what we think, instead?

[–]pillburtRed Pill Mana mana10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I would like to address some points that I think you are incorrect about- given a proper red pill perspective.

TRP thinks women are not, should not, or cannot be equal to men. In contrast, mainstream society is largely egalitarian. A result: I do not see mainstream society petitioning to remove men's voting rights as often as I see this from TRP[1] .

TRP thinks that the term "equality" is a misnomer and holds no value other than as ammo in social justice warriors' weapons to demand compliance from those they disagree with. TRP as a group overwhelmingly prefers equal treatment under the law, but not ensured equal outcomes which by definition require unequal treatment under the law. To suggest that men are categorically "above" women requires an accepted framework of value before the statement can be made or assessed for accuracy. If no framework of value is provided in context, then it's a meaningless critique often levied against the red pill by social justice warriors who hope to campaign a negative stigma using vagueries such as "the red pill thinks men are better than women." I use the term vaguery to denote that the very accusation against the red pill is nonsensical and meaningless in itself.

TRP envisions that only narrow roles are appropriate for women (eg they must be submissive, relationships require Captains). In contrast, mainstream society is pushing towards gender liberation, which TRP often notes regretfully (men are supposedly being feminized).

TRP envisions a narrow set of roles suggested for women who hope to find themselves attractive for long term commitment with a male who presents high quality traits such as alpha qualities and a selection of beta provisionary qualities. Women are free to do as they want, but as our common theme here suggests, red pill men do not agree that women are free to get any outcome they want. This is not a commentary on what women choose to want in life, but instead how they choose to try to get it.

TRP views women are morally inferior, probably due to evolution. I do not see mainstream culture argue that men as a class are incapable of moral agency or virtue.

TRP views morals as a gendered quality, giving a different set of values to men and women. Women, as a group, tend to lack certain values that men have, while men lack values women have. For instance: Men have a sense of duty and honor that allows them to take the most dangerous jobs and risk their lives for their country, friends, and family. And while some women share these values, the all-volunteer army and work-death rates show that it is overwhelmingly men who embrace them.

I do not see mainstream sources calling for violence[2] or excusing it[3] as often as I see this on TRP.

I think this is a fine example of cherry picking. When you say "as often" and "mainstream" you can conveniently make a propaganda push against a group of people you dislike without being definitive or disprovable. Could we just as easily admit that there are zero confirmed acts of violence having risen out of the red pill movement? Or how should we then treat self-proclaimed feminists with golden quotes such these:

  • “I feel that ‘man-hating’ is an honourable and viable political act, that the oppressed have a right to class-hatred against the class that is oppressing them.” – Robin Morgan, Ms. Magazine Editor

  • “To call a man an animal is to flatter him; he’s a machine, a walking dildo.” -– Valerie Solanas

  • “I want to see a man beaten to a bloody pulp with a high-heel shoved in his mouth, like an apple in the mouth of a pig.” — Andrea Dworkin

  • “Rape is nothing more or less than a conscious process of intimidation by which all men keep all women in a state of fear” — Susan Brownmiller

  • “The more famous and powerful I get the more power I have to hurt men.” — Sharon Stone

  • “In a patriarchal society, all heterosexual intercourse is rape because women, as a group, are not strong enough to give meaningful consent.” — Catherine MacKinnon

  • “The proportion of men must be reduced to and maintained at approximately 10% of the human race.” — Sally Miller Gearhart

  • “Men who are unjustly accused of rape can sometimes gain from the experience.” – Catherine Comins

  • “All men are rapists and that’s all they are” — Marilyn French

  • “Probably the only place where a man can feel really secure is in a maximum security prison, except for the imminent threat of release.” — Germaine Greer.

Incredibly solid post, thanks for your insight

[–]Mytecacc[S] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

I didn't say that women's mainstream media is producing the exact reversals.

I said mainstream women's area's are producing equivalent levels of misandry and have been for years, but nobody bats an eye.

RP type sites are in many ways a push back against that.

[–]soulcakeduck14 points15 points16 points 12 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

If you were right we would want to start batting more eyes, not responding with more extremism.

I think we've refuted your headline though. This isn't "on par" if mainstream culture is not calling men morally inferior, advocating and supporting violence against them, advocating inequality, advocating removal of such basic rights.

Eyes would bat, if that were the case. But those "reversals" are notably missing.

[–]Mytecacc[S] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

You have not refuted the head line, the only arguments that have been made are "its not true because there are no exact equivalents just with the genders reversed".

Im not taking about underreported DV against men, Im taking about the deliberate omission of female perpetration to mislead people to beleve that abuse is male.

Do you have an example of this propaganda at all? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Its not an extra ordinary claim. It has been well documented that abuse is not male. Its well known that feminist researchers and information outlets misrepresent it as male.

Also, you've presented a false equivalence

Its a false equivalence to a BP person. That was the point of the question. To a BP person RP misogny will stand out, but the misandry in the mainstream media will fly under their radar.

To a BP person RP misogny will stand out, but the misandry in the mainstream media will fly under their radar.

Where did you base this on? On the Blue Pill sub-reddit that is focused on one side of the story? Wouldn't that make the Red Pill just as 'blind' as well? Heck, the BP sub-reddit doesn't even truly describe BP people. As far as I've seen, it only exists as a parody of the Red Pill, not an alternative to it.

BP persons can easily disagree with both extreme stances, you know. It doesn't have to be black-and-white.

Extraordinary or not, that is a claim. Evidence?

Have you ever seen a feminist source saying DV is equal, women commit 70% of child abuse and at least 30% of sexual violence? You will be more used to hearing a narrative, one in which abuse is gendered, something that happens to women, and women don't really do.

The extraordinary and outlandish claim, is the one that feminists are making when you think about it.

A few sources on how the movement maintains that narrative.

A result: I do not see mainstream society petitioning to remove men's voting rights as often as I see this from TRP[1] .

Are you sure about that?

I went back to your old post, and a lot of the quotes are too selective and contextual for me to pass judgement. For example, some of the quotes were downvoted to oblivion, and the top responses were essentially, "fuck that, everyone deserves the right to vote."

Also, the infamous quote you took from redpillschool, you took out of context. You left out the bottom half of the quote, "Some of the guys, upon first waking up, might appear angry. And I think that's ok. Eventually most guys settle down. I don't think that's bad. I think it's good that there's a place to do that."

In the context of the discussion, it seemed to me he was speaking about others, and how the sub was a good place to vent for angry newbs.

In a following comment, "I don't think anybody currently supports removing women's right to vote."

[–]soulcakeduck1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes, I'm sure.

If RPS was speaking about others, that strengthens my claim. RPS is an authority about what TRP is, so when he says TRP is anti-suffrage, that is even stronger than if he (as a redpiller) says he is anti-suffrage.

And yes, I agree that not all anti-suffrage sentiments believe that the proper action today is an effort to remove suffrage. "Women shouldn't vote but we would not succeed in removing this right, today" is still anti-democratic for example.

Besides, my claim was that this is not happening in mainstream media. Do you have evidence that mainstream media regularly toy with the idea of revoking men's suffrage?

[–]fiat_lux_Red Pillar4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

He was clearly referring to some of the guys who upon first waking up who appear angry.

And frankly, I like to keep things separate between knowledge, assumptions, and desire/intent. One could say that

  • "Women's suffrage has doubled the number of voters." (Fact)
  • "More voters means greater chance of populism." (Assumption)

For me, it isn't until one outright declares desire/intent:

  • "I want to get rid of women's suffrage."

that he is expressing anti-democratic sentiment. Even expressing sentiment is not the same as petitioning to remove voting rights, which shows that one is actively working towards that desire.

You're free to pass judgment on moral character... "It doesn't matter if he doesn't explicitly express his desires and intents. Why would someone express this sort of knowledge or assumption? He must have had an agenda or spent a lot of time thinking about this..."

I just think there are more controversial things to be outraged about. I actually like the fact that they are able to vent and voice their "knowledge/facts" and assumptions. That way we can all actually argue about them.

If you want Guardian examples.

They have been promoting the idea that domestic violence is male for years, along with numerous other feministy sites. One of their contributors is also a contributor on a site that advocates male targeted gendercide and eugenics.

That's an empirical claim. It's not "on par" with anything above.

One of their contributors is also a contributor on a site that advocates male targeted gendercide and eugenics.

Which one is that? And why does this sound like 3 degrees of separation? The Guardian isn't advocating that policy, their writers aren't advocating that policy, but someone their writers know advocates that policy?

You think gendercide is a mainstream media position that no one would bat an eye over?

[–]Mytecacc[S] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

hat's an empirical claim. It's not "on par" with anything above.

To a BP person covering up women's abuse to misrepresent abuse as male, isn't on a par with being critical of women on RP. That was the point of the question.

Which one is that?

Can't remember, she posted at RADFEM HUB, as well as being a well known feminist and regular Guardian contributor.

You think gendercide is a mainstream media position that no one would bat an eye over?

It was well publicized with a press release what was going on at REDFEM HUB and the media didn't bat an eye.

Can you show me the "10 reasons to date a guy with an eating disorder" article on Jezebel? Of course there are going to be people that criticize the other gender on both sides. I don't support anyone who claims that a gender only has value because of their genitals, or that 50% of the world is incapable of logic or thought. It is insulting to everyone.

[–]Mytecacc[S] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

This is goal setting.

Can I offer you a Jezebele article in which writers and commentators celebrate domestic violence against men instead?

The point remains, even if there is no exact equivalent of the eating disorder article.

[–]raptorrage8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Go for it. Want to quote ROK articles and shitty Jezebel at each other all day or admit that sometimes, people can be shitty regardless of gender?

No.

I just wanted to ask blue pill people that are outraged by misogny on ROK or RP if they realized that mainstream women's publications and just as bad, but that reality flies under their BP radar because its normalized.

That's kinda a straw man argument. Many people on TBP are just as critical of misandry as they are of TRP. This is not a binary issue. You can be against TRP and against misandrists. And the existence of one doesn't validate the other.

[–]Mytecacc[S] 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

You can be against TRP and against misandrists, and not realize that Jezebel and many examples of the womens media are on a par.

[–]Mytecacc[S] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I made the mistake of assuming that there would be strong over lap between TBP and srs / manboobz types.

[–]redwhiskeredbubul5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There's a kind of 'sauce for the goose' approach to the writing on Jezebel sometimes that I'm not necessarily crazy about: it seems to just show that given the opportunity, women can be as superficial, randy, and inconsiderate as men. But it's not really in the service of any deeper attack on men, any more than Jezebel advocates that women should act like, y'know, Jezebel in the bible.

I think you might be going at this in a way that's a bit literal-minded. One thing I always see is the SCUM manifesto cited in MRA blogs, memes, etc. Before MRA it never occured to me that it could even be read straight. It's just too over-the-top.

[–]Mytecacc[S] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Citing SCUM is old hat really. You are more likely to find MRA's exposing the fact modern feminism is spreading hate by presenting abuse as male by omitting the stats on female perpetrated DV, child abuse and sexual violence.

There is no shortage of publications doing that, thats on a par with the worst RP has to offer.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm Blue Pill as they come but I don't think I have ever laughed harder at Family Guy than at the station ID in this clip.

Anyway, yeah, I don't that what TRP is doing is something that only men do. I think women do that same sort of stuff to men. I actually first started jerking on /r/tumblerinaction which focuses more on the female version of TRP. I found that community was too angry and just generally shitty and unpleasant to be around.

Like, if you thought one tumblr blog was actually kind of reasonable, they will downvote you into oblivion. They require you to have no independent thought.

There are some angry and unpleasant people on TBP but it's generally a fun, relaxed atmosphere, I find. And disagreement isn't vilified. I prefer it. That is how I ended up here.

[–]redwhiskeredbubul2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

TiA is one of the weirdest subs on reddit. There are LGBT people on there and MRA's and people who think the idea of social construction is a Jewish conspiracy. It's dedicated to being angry about 15 year-old queer kids in Arkansas being angry.

They're also easily trolled. I've seen a social media profile for the person who claims to run one of the most notorious blogs on there and they're actually a very reasonable woman in their thirties who works in publishing in New York. I'm almost positive it's a semi-deliberate attempt to rile up people who don't like left politics and have no sense of context or irony. And it's been brilliantly successful.

[–]myfriendscantknowAgent Orangered (BP Man)2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Possibly...but that doesn't make it okay/right? I also disagree with unfair treatment of men, but I will definitely voice my opinion against certain statements of TRP regarding women.

Both are wrong and I'll voice my opinion against both when I encounter them (given that it is the right setting of course).

"Have you considered that the criticism of female behaviour is on RP is on a par with that of male that routinely appears on mainstream women's media lie Jezebel and the Guardian, and that RP only sticks out because its taboo for the criticize women and its normal to criticize men in the culture?"

Yes - I realized that a while ago.

Facebook is the easiest example. Women will regularly put up yet-another-article about "evil men" and such. They rarely get any negative responses, and if you do respond negatively, about half of them will unfriend you and ban you. And I mean carefully responding in a way that uses language that's less inflamatory and hateful than the article they posted. They don't just disagree with you (would you really expect them to agree if they posted the article in the first place), they feel totally justified in banning you as they think it's "offensive" to disagree with a man hating article.

Not all women are like this, true - I've seen a few open to debate. But a lot are.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Take another example from pop culture - when Kayne West interrupted Taylor Swift to talk about another women's music video, he got all the flack for doing that (as he should). I don't think there was anyone saying "ah, no, Kayne West doesn't deserve all this flack!" A man gets critisized for doing something stupid, they just blame the man for it.

A year later, Miley Cyrus did her thing at the VMA's. If she had been a man, like Kayne West, it would have just been her fault. But because she's a woman, you instead got two reactions - #1: "outrage" that anyone dared to criticise a woman for anything she was doing, #2: trying to pass the blame onto the nearest man - Robin Thicke - and say it was his fault that it happened (or that it was "just as much" his fault, which is the first step in pushing all the blame onto him).

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I 100% agree with you - critisizing or villifying men is just seen as normal and commonplace, while doing so to women is largely avoided by the mainstream media or heavily critisized if it does happen.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Can you be specific? Can you cite a few articles from jezebel and the guardian and then show us specifically what you're comparing it to?

Also, it's taboo to criticize women? Really? Really?

Do you read major news outlets? Female politicians don't get criticized? Female performers? Female bloggers? Journalists? Writers? Actresses?

Where have you been this past year? Decade? Forever?

Take a typical article on domestic or sexual violence, one that makes out these crimes are gendered, for example.

Also, it's taboo to criticize women? Really? Really?

Yes, women as a group and female behaviour.

Do you read major news outlets? Female politicians don't get criticized? Female performers? Female bloggers? Journalists? Writers? Actresses?

They are more likely being criticized as individual professionals, not women.

I'd say the exact same thing of men.

This is a silly complaint.

There is a clear difference between bitching about men as men (womens media) or bitching about women as women (RP) and criticizing people that happen to be men or women as professionals.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Sure.

And I wouldn't put "women's media" on equal footing with RP.

RP is just so horribly, horribly sexist. It's like reading the Stormfront website or attending a white supremacy meeting.

There's no comparison to be had. That's why I asked for specific examples from the OP.

RP is like reading a women's bestseller like "the rules", women's sites like "mumsnet" or Amanda Marcotte.

It just seems shocking because people aren't used to seeing men talk about women, the way women are free to talk about men.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Nope. It's shocking because random RP/MR internet commenters don't have a reputation to uphold. And they let their sexism reign free. Many are downright misogynistic.

Contrary to this, leading feminists have reputations, write for reputable newspapers (not just a reddit sub), are in academia, or have some other non related career. They are accountable for what they say publicly.

So even if they were as sexist as RPs, they can't show it else they discredit themselves.

So, no. RP is shocking because it's a cesspit of horrid sexism.

Well known Feminist writings? Not even close.

Nah, if the mens movement ever has a place like radfem hub where male genocide is advocated by name and professional feminists.

Or the mens movement is deliberately covering up pedophilia, domestic abuse sexual aggression and child abuse by men in to create hate propaganda against women by taring all women with these human problems.

Or celebrated mra's shot people, or celebrated mra's described getting a child drunk and raping them as good ... you can judge us as on a par with you.

As a feminist you have no legs to stand on.

Contrary to this, leading feminists have reputations, write for reputable newspapers (not just a reddit sub), are in academia, or have some other non related career. They are accountable for what they say publicly.

And they routinely publish hate, its just normalized and accepted for feminists to hate in the culture.

And rp and mr aren't the same thing.

If you want to compare RP to something, try "the rules", cosmo or any number of mainstream female orientated best sellers.

Lay off the Kool-aid buddy.

You might want to get your information elsewhere. MR and RP sites are making you lose perspective.

You know, I hadn't. Now that I have, my opinion of it hasn't changed a bit. Jezebel sucks. (Can't say that the whole Guardian newspaper does, though. Gooooooo Snowden articles) So does TRP. It's all hate.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Eeks, Jezebel and The Guardian is not even in the same universe, in the context of evaluating quality journalism. Jezebel is mostly garbage. How is The Guardian "mainstream women's media"? It's one of the most respected newspapers, though it leans liberal. IIRC it forced the NYT to publish the Wikileak cables because the NYT was sitting on it due to US government pressure. The Guardian is also home to the most acerbic critic of US civil rights/human rights violations, Glenn Greenwald.

Someone thinks RP a counterpoint to The Guardian ... I can't even think how they came to this conclusion, unless they don't read The Guardian.

[–]Mytecacc[S] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm talking about the feminists writers in the guardian, best sellers like the rules, Amanda Marcotte, mumsnrt.org ...

its unthinkable comparing them to you, because its heresy for men to talk about women, the way women talk about men.
