What the fuck is that logic? She literally just put her own desires (to eat what she wants) before her unborn child (his health).

Is it because fatties raise fatties by feeding them terrible food and not exercising, or is it some kind environmental impact on how the programming for hormones changes in fit and overweight mothers?

Another of the girls at work just announced she is pregnant and afraid she will gain a bunch of weight. She asked the only mother on our team who is still thin how she kept slim. "I watched my diet and kept exercising." The ham planets circled up and ripped her a new one for saying that. i felt bad for her but stayed out of it. Nothing is uglier or more dangerous than women feeding on other women.

There was another study that showed a link between the foods a mother ate often during pregnancy and the preferences of the child even as an adult. 50 pounds is definitely excessive weight gain which will be obvious after the baby is born and probably damaging to the mother's self esteem which was also shown to negatively affect newborns and lead to depressive symptoms. I don't like how the commenter makes it seem that pregnant women should eat whatever they want without consideration because it sounds like a person who would also smoke and drink with no regard to the development of the baby.

This article confuses implies causation but is only showing correlation.

Hormones are linked between mother and child. Just because the weights of the two are linked, does not imply the mother's overeating causes obesity in the child.

It might... but the fact that the two go together does not prove it.

There are lots of possibilities:

Mother overeating causes childhood obesity (obvious conclusion, not necessarily right)
Mother overeating tends to also overfeed when child is born
Fat child causes increase in mother's weight in the womb via blood hormones or physically via size.
Some other cause that affects both mother and child simultaneously (eg interaction of child and mother hormones in some way).

I remenber reading a study while back that said 'What your father eats will predict what you eat.' I think it is foolish that people do not consider their dieting or what they consume to affect their children. We're very highly influential species, one way shape or form we will pick up our parents (this includes mothers) eating habbits. I dont understand how people can shame a women who 8 months pregnant but dont like hearing the truth about our children health.

A human baby is amazingly resilient. Imagine the nutrition variances women face through history. A child will take what it needs during gestation. What matters much more is the nutrition once born.

I'm not sure I want to jump on this bangwagon. There are legit reasons for massive weight gain during pregnancy, some of which are signs of OMGWTF complications that can jeopardize babies before they're born. Yeah, there are women who use pregnancy to binge. However, weight gain during pregnancy only has a tangential relationship to eating habits.

I'm not going to fuck up my kid in his womb because I don't want my kid growing up fat. Besides, between my eating and workout habits, the child should have a decent chance at being very fit.

I ive in South America and there aren't 10% amount of obese people as in the US (off the top of my head, not real statistics)
