When it comes to objectifying somebody, there are many people who feel a sense of guilt in doing so. They objectify but also feel bad about it. This is common in both men and women, although it is more common in men, there are many women who likewise have some remorse in objectifying a man.
Objectification is not looking at someone like a human being; just as a thing, a commodity, a sex toy. It’s a subjugation of identity and autonomy. The person is one dimensional. This is how a lot of these finance guys see strippers and hookers when Friday night comes and they go rushing to the strip club. Or how the recently single woman would look at the sexy man in the bar and flirt with him conspicuously. They objectify a man based on superficial things, looks and public opinion. Whereas men objectify women on their looks primarily. Nobody really thinks, “Who is this person? What are their parents like? What is their taste in film or music like? What are their ideas?” Voltaire once said ‘Judge a man not by his answers but by his questions’ and yet few people, especially sugar daddies, stripper clients, and manipulative women, do this. Now you may say that such instincts of objectification are natural, Darwinian, and even part of the mating phenomenon and perhaps that is true but it doesnt necessarily make us ethical does it? In my previous years, I have objectified women and boys. I just used them for sex and put back my pants less than 2 minutes after cumming. I didnt feel like cuddling, didnt feel like talking. Why? Because fuck em, I dont want to talk to some easy dumb bitch or some airheaded twink. Fuck em.
But yet, I recall how my subjugation and objectification of these people are nothing more than a misinterpretation of who they are. They are not sex dolls or empty bodies. They are real people. People who have thoughts and dreams and ideas. People who can sing, laugh, tell a story, play an instrument, draw a nice picture, cook a good meal. “Why?” I ask myself “Why do I objectify people?” I find it so bad and it is something that involves porn. Pornography is typically (at least in my opinion) a sort of gateway to objectification. People objectify the pornstars, later they objectify the strippers and then they go on objectifying everybody. The cynical man will say that objectification is natural and that all men do it so dont worry about it. Yet I still see through all these superficialities and see that in front of me is a human being. But often times, objectification becomes a necessity when our libido overcomes us. I would argue that alcohol and libido is the main kicker for objectifying someone.
I cant help it sometimes. When the balls are full, we are hidden from reason. The sexual impulses work on us very hard. What can we do?
