Something I heard the other day hit home with me and I thought I would share as I see it applies to RP as well.

The story I was being told was by a woman that skied often and she was getting a new pair of skis. She has lived 15 minutes from the slopes and has been skiing regularly for 30 or so years. As she was getting fitted he heard the sales guy tell the guy setting the binding to set them for an intermediate skill level.

She was offended and you could see why she felt that way as he had a ton of experience. The sales guy then explained to her that while they were talking he had asked her "How often do you fall down?" She had answered that she hasn't fallen on the slopes in years. The salesman said that meant she was no longer challenging herself which was evidenced by her not falling at all.

This same logic can be extended to TRP as well. If you are really trying to improve, you will continue to crash and burn. Whatever your hobby is, you should be pushing yourself to failure within reason. As an example, if you are the best player on your golf league, you should be joining a more challenging league otherwise you wont improve much. Same goes with the women, if you find you are approaching HB7s and having great success, you should really be going after 8s and 9s to push yourself further.

Bottom line is: Never get complacent, always be improving.
