I know Disney princesses get a lot of hate from people of this sub as they encourage pickmeishaism, but can we talk about the portrayal of stepmothers as "evil" in fairytales? People often focus on the princesses being depicted in an antifeminist manner, but so are the stepmothers.

Stepmothers are often depicted as evil, abusive narcissists who favour their own biological kids. In reality, stepmothers are nowhere like that. Sure, there are cases of stepmothers abusing their partner's kids but it's nowhere as common as in fairytales. In reality, most stepmothers are suffering. They are in a conflicted role where the dad expects them to care for the kids as if they were their own and their mom hates them for doing this. They're often nice to the kids and play a great deal in their upbringing, yet society and the kids will never acknowledge them as true mothers.

IMO kids should be more wary of stepfathers than stepmoms. I don't have the statistics but I believe men are more likely to abuse, rape, and kill their stepkids than women. I've heard of men who date single moms because they're pedophiles hoping to have sex with their kids. I've never heard of a woman doing the same thing.

And honestly, the portrayal of stepmothers as evil in fairytales doesn't do stepmoms any good. It'll just brainwash kids into thinking their stepmoms are evil which makes their lives more difficult. There are moms brainwashing their kids to hate their stepmothers by telling them their stepmoms are evil narcissists and these fairytales are helping with this process. Stepmoms already have to deal with all the shit of being married to a guy with kids and these stereotypes are just making their lives harder.
